3 consecutive days each week without seeing baby

DD is 9 months and I'll be going back to work at 12 months. I had always planned to back on 3 X 10 hr days (need 30 hrs a week financially, and commute is long so makes sense to do long days). I had envisaged doing two blocks (say Mon, Wed, Thurs) however nursery has only offered Wed, Thurs Fri) plus my employer has expressed a preference that I work on consecutive days, so it looks like that's how it's going to be. I'll be out of the house 6.30am - 7.30pm Sad Her dad will take her in and collect her each day and I won't see her for 3 days straight Sad

Is there anyone here who works similar hours? How do you find it? Should I push hard to change to non consecutive days? (I have a friend with a child at the same nursery so may be able to swap a day.. work may not be happy though).

Could Dad keep her up til 8 those nights so you can at least see her?

Before swapping days I think you need to be sure work will honour the days not decline the offer entirely

I have exactly this sort of schedule in normal times and have since my youngest was 12 months. I'm out of the house 6am-7/8pm 3 days a week, 4th day I work normal ish hours (dc in nursery 9-5) and I have Fridays off. It's been fine.

My dc don't go to bed early because dh and I only finish work 5-6pm anyway even when I'm not doing the long hours, so we don't have dinner til closer to 7pm and bedtime is 8-8:30pm. I am usually home in time for bathtime. It's only 3 nights out of 7. It means I can do the school run 2 days a week and have a day off a week with my toddler. Personally I think it's ideal compared to working 9-5 5 days a week.

Is there any option to do one or two of the days longer than 10 hrs? So 12hr, 6hr, 12hr?

This is my exact working schedule and honestly I'd say it's about 50/50 whether she is awake before I go and/or awake when I get back

I'd have a word with local Childminder's and other nurseries to see what options are available before making any final decisions

I work 24 hrs and do 3 x 8 hr days (I could do 2 x 12 but it's too exhausting I tried it for 2 weeks) yes I pay another day at the Childminder's but it's worth it and childminder is £36 a day and nursery is £55 so it nearly evens out to be honest

I didn't go back until both mine were 1 and a couple of months (a year plus holidays) but then once they're 3 you'll get 30 hrs funded so it's not too long before that kicks in and it really helps
