Have I just done something stupid????

Have got twins 4 and a very nearly 3 year old.

I have got a sturdy 3 wheeler and a crappy buggy thing.

Just said I'd sell the sturdy 3 wheeler to a friend as my 3 year old is refusing to go in it and keep el crapo buggy for emergencies.

Everybody at pre-school thinks I'm mad as they all still seem to use their sturdy pushchair a lot.

When did you get rid of yours????

ds2 hasnt had a pushchair for a few months and he was 3 last week.

HTH?

Quite a lot of us never even had a 3-wheeled buggy (v new when DD was born and vv expensive ... and she's only 8 now).

So I think you'll survive!

We still have 15 pushchairs but I have a new baby as an excuse

If your 3 yr old doesn't go in it, then sell away but if you think they might relent later, keep the 3 wheeler - much easier to push a 3 yr old in!

Totally depends on the child and the distances you go. I got rid of our pushchair when dd2 was 2.5 as she could walk very well long distances. Now I have 2 dses and I wouldn't consider having ds1 walk to playgroup yet as it's a 15 minute walk (and uphill to get home too) - I can see me using it until he is 3.

If your 3 year old won't use it and is capable of walking any regular journeys you make then I think you are doing the right thing - particularly as you aren't leaving yourself buggyless!

If you are not sure, then try doing without the buggy for a couple of weeks before you sell it - if you don't need it at all, then decision made

It depends on what you need it for really. I only have a Jane three wheeler and use it at least three times a week for walks. I go on a cycle path/walkway where there are some pretty bumpy bits and really wouldn't want to take a more flimsy pram. Having said that, unlike your son, my three year old son spends quite a bit of time in the pram. We are usually walking for 1.5 hours to 2.5 hours and I like taking the pram because it means I can walk fast and get a bit of exercise.
However, if I were getting on public transport a lot and having trouble getting a large pram on, I would probably also have a smaller pushchair in case I needed to fold it.
To a certain extent, it sounds as if your DS has made the decision for you, if he refuses to get in the large pram.

Depends really. My twins refused to get in a buggy after about 2.5. Is your 3 year old used to walking a lot?

hayCHingleBells · 15/11/2007 15:35

both my dc were out of the buggy by 3.
I notice some mums still arrive at scholl with their reception age child in a buggy!

harpsichordsahoy · 15/11/2007 15:43

sell it, then you definitely won't use it
I only have a crappy buggy thing, but much depends on your child and your lifestyle. I quite like having a buggy as a trolley to hang stuff on

Thanks for that, am thinking maybe sentimentality is getting the better of me,my 3 year old will be my last

If she's not in it the boys fight to go in it, if she was my oldest and I had another she couldn't go in it anyway, think I will get rid.

We live in a small town with 5 min run to pre-school which she does fine. On country walks and beach she runs along with the others.

It seems silly to have it just sitting there, probably better for them all healthwise if it goes, money would be useful think I've convinced myself. Not good at making decisions during pmt week
