Weaning meal (cooking with milk) question

Not sure where to put this, basically I've started weaning my little one and was planning on giving some mash tomorrow lunch as we have that for tea tonight. Only problem is I only have skimmed milk to put in it (usually have whole milk at home.so didn't even think about it when planning the meal). He's 6 months, would skimmed be ok this one time, the NHS website says you can use it for cooking from 1. Or would I be better taking him some potatoes out before the milk and finishing them up with formula tomorrow?

FTM as you can probably tell Wink

Occasionally using skimmed milk etc in food is fine, I have when ran out of full fat. As far as I’m aware, the guidance refers to milk as a drink rather than in food and full fat recommended because of the nutrients and calories it contains.

It will be fine as a one off, don't worry.

Skimmed milk will be absolutely fine so don't go making more work and washing up for yourself! Whole milk is recommended from 1 as a drink but I wouldn't be too concerned in cooking. I'm assuming there are other things on the menu too, plus their normal milk anyways so nutrition wise it's all good x

It’s fine. It only because babies and children need the calories of whole food so non skimmed/ low fat isn’t great all the time for them. Add the skimmed milk, and a blob of butter or cream cheese to his.

In food like mashed potato it’s fine; I didn’t always have whole milk in

Brilliant thank you for the replies! I was thrown off with the NHS site saying not to use it for cooking until 1 so thought I'd ask people who've been there and done it Grin. Saves a lot of hassle then!
