Protecting baby's feet outside

DD is 9 months and is cruising and "walking" (aka launching herself forwards while holding a parent's hands). She goes barefoot inside which is fine, but we were in the garden today and I was worried about her cutting her feet on stones or thorns etc..

I know her feet are still developing and she shouldn't wear "shoes" until she's properly walking, but at this stage is it pre walkers we need? Or those slipper sock things with waterproof soles? Or something else? We wouldn't go out if it's wet or anything but as I say just need to protect her feet in the garden/park (and u guess the grass might be damp also).

Any thoughts would be appreciated - thanks Smile

I used Stonz when it was wet, and those little leather shoes (ShooShoos might have been the brand) for when it was dry. Two very late walkers, so we got a lot of use out of them!

NotOnMute · 09/05/2021 17:18

(Soft leather shoes - no structure, just elastic to hold them on when they crawl and drag their feet along)

We had cruisers from Clarks before DS could walk properly. He was late to walk but liked to toddle about holding hands and kept getting his feet stood on by other children at play group so thought I'd rather have some level of protection while in those situation. Bare foot the rest of the time.

Mine is now 2 but I pretty much get all her shoes from pre walking soft sole to now from Bobux. Lovely quality and wear well

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 09/05/2021 21:17

Inch blue are lovely

Always gone with the pre-walkers when they're cruising. Lots of places do them now so no need to buy from the big brands, they can breeze through sizes fast.

ForkedIt · 09/05/2021 21:26

Mine went barefoot Blush

AnExcellentWalker · 09/05/2021 21:28

We got cruisers from Clarks. They've got a pretty thin & flexible sole.

JustAddCoffee91 · 09/05/2021 21:33

May sound really odd but I put a pair of those swimming shoe type things on my LO when he was in the garden... tuna feet I think they're called, really lightweight and flexible and do the job for outside

LittleCatDog · 09/05/2021 21:37

I use Step Ons they're good!

JustAddCoffee91 · 09/05/2021 21:39

Hot tuna... not tuna feet 😂😂 I was close

My DD17m had a lair of Bobux Step -Up for he first proper shoes, at around 13m. She absolutely mashed them in less than 4 weeks. :( They gave a full refund, because the uppers were coming away from the soles by then.

Have replaced them with Ecco, much better!!

Won't be buying Bobux again until she's not running round , climbing up everything, in and out of puddles etc

MySocalledLoaf · 09/05/2021 21:44

Mine walked on the grass barefoot (and on the concrete in the park). I just don’t think there’s much likelihood of there being stones big enough to do any damage. At that age you are always so close watching what they put in their mouth I don’t think there is much chance that they can really hurt themselves. I wouldn’t worry about the grass being damp either.

luccyloo · 09/05/2021 21:56

Mine went barefoot too, never had an injury.

If you do want something though I'd get the Clark's cruisers so they're measured properly.

User0ne · 09/05/2021 22:04

Barefoot is fine. Why are you worried about feet getting damp?

MyPanda · 09/05/2021 22:13

@User0ne I'm not worried about feet getting damp, I'm worried about them getting cut. I was just clarifying that I didn't need shoes for inclement weather but did need something that wouldn't disintegrate if it got damp iyswim.
