5 week old - help

I'm a first time mum to a 5 week old little boy and I need some advice.

He rarely settles in between Feeds (feeding every 2-3 hours). He will be calm for about half an hour after a feeding and then he will cry and there's often little that will comfort him. We've tried it all and a dummy will work for a while but then he cries again. I think he may have some trapped wind as he clenches his fists and arches his back/pulls his legs up when crying. I also suspect he's a very hungry baby.

Also, despite not really being settled during the day, he will not settle at night. When I think he's asleep and put him down he starts crying again.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Have you tried infacol? That does sound quite normal for a 5 week old though to be honest... it gets better! Xx

Back arching can be related to reflux.
Have you tried abit gripe water on his dummy to help his wind?

How’s he fed - breastmilk or formula or a mix? What’s his napping like in the day? Overtired newborns get really, really wound up and it took me by surprise how hard it can be to get some newborns to sleep (my DS was one of them, he’d regularly be awake for 4 or 5 hours and be a mess no matter what I did). They don’t just drop off like expected, you have to really try to get some of them to sleep, especially ones who seem to prioritise feeding over everything else. Crying on being put down at night is really hard but really normal - I’m sure you’ve been told this before but read up on the concept of the 4th trimester. Hope things improve for you - 5 to 6 weeks is the peak of crying in newborns so hopefully it will x
