Drinking from cup with chin on chest :/

My daughter is 7mo and happily finger-feeding at family mealtimes as well as having her breastfeeds all day and night for nutrition. I've started trying to give her EBM in a Doidy cup at lunchtime rather than a proper breastfeed, to prepare her for my return to work in a couple of months.

She's pretty enthusiastic about the whole process but she stuffs her chin on her chest and puts her whole face in the cup like she's drinking head first out of a horse trough. How can I get her to lift her head up so that she actually gets to drink it properly?

After all the fuss that got made when we were learning to breastfeed about how much more comfortable they were with their heads tipped back I am completely confused as to why she's doing this. She loves lifting things up to her head and above her ears normally so it's not a motor skills issue in that sense.

My daughter literally does the exact same thing! I'm assuming it's something that they will improve on/learn in time. In the meantime I just encourage her to lift her head but doesn't really work - she still practically face plants into it 🙈
Maybe somebody else will have some suggestions..

All three of mine drank like that to begin with. And with all three I'd be trying to get their heads back a bit to show them they'd get a drink and it didn't work. Between 8 and 9 months it just clicked with them and they can all drink perfectly now. I also think it was a bit of a novelty factor that they were quite happy just to play with the cup or beaker for the first couple of weeks.

I wouldn't worry if she's well hydrated with other sources of fluid. It will click in the near future for her.

No advice but laughed at the description of "like drinking out of a horse trough" can just picture it! 🤣
