My 11 year old boy is going through a really miserable time at school, partly due to teachers and partly due to one or two less than friendly children. He's always used food as a way of control on occassion since he could eat on his own, but it's becoming more pronounced lately coinciding with the depressed state he is in as a result, I think, of school. He is not overweight, far from, in fact he has always been on the slim side.
My husband realises it's a control thing but thinks it is part of growing up. And that I should give him (our son) more control in what he eats by allowing him to choose his food freely. And that just because he's miserable and not eating we shouldn't turn to someone for help.
But I'm really concerned that left unchecked it could develop into something more. I've already seen the early stages of depression in him through this last lockdown. And I believe that if there are experts to help then I'd like to seek their help!
So I'm keen to speak to a child psycologist - to see if I really am being neurotic or there is something to be concerned about.
Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
