Bedside Cribs

Wasn't sure of the best place to put this so apologies if it's in a strange place!
I'm a FTM due in July and trying to get baby equipment sorted, I've been looking at the bedside cribs and I have what may be a stupid question. Our bed is ridiculously tall, around 70cm from floor to top of the mattress, does that mean I need a crib that is height adjustable to 70cm?
Also, some of the cribs I've seen have 'feet' are these meant to slide under the bed so that the crib sits right next to our mattress, our bed is a divan base so there won't be room for that I don't think if that's the case.
Thanks in advance

We used a Snuzpod with our divan bed as it has straps that secure it to the bed (that clip from under the mattress rather than needing a space under the bed big enough to fit legs).

The ideal height of the mattress should be the same as the height of your bed. I think the newer snuzpods go up to 73cm now.

I loved ours. Word of warning, they do sell it as a removable Moses basket on a base but it was very heavy and large so I never took it off to use it that way.

Thanks, we've been offered a Snuzpod second hand but I'm guessing it's one of the older ones

I have a divan and we have a hush next to me crib as you can shorten the feet so they're the same distance out as the crib edge if that makes sense. Not sure on height though but it dies go quite high
It's also £99 on amazon so cheaper than a lot of the others

Thanks, unfortunately that only goes up to 54cm so a good 16cm shorter than we need. Didn't really consider this would be a problem when we bought the bed!

I had the maxi cosi Iora with my divan bed. I really liked it, had a basket underneath which was great for storage, and mesh side. My DD has reflux and the recline was really good. Plus it can be easily taken down and comes with a travel bag, for when we did overnight stays.

You can get risers to go under cot legs to raise it up?

EdithGrantham · 08/05/2021 23:03

I can't find the maximum height for that one @DressingGown87
I'm also now a little confused that the newer designs don't zip all the way down (apparently for safety), I thought the whole purpose of these type of cribs was to enable you to essentially emulate co-sleeping so not having to lift the baby in and out of the cot for breastfeeding, more of just a slide them towards you situation?

I looked at those too @ArchbishopOfBanterbury but with the ones I found that would be suitable, as the Snuzpod is on rails rather than legs, that I would end up having to stack two or more risers and it would then risk kind of falling off the risers

I don't like them not zipping all the way down either.

Look at BabyBay, probably the Box Spring size if you want a purpose built one. Or have a look at Ikea Sniglar, as this is a fairly easy one to convert. That was the only decent option 13 years ago when I had DS1 because you had to import the only co-sleeper cot from America and it was really expensive.

Converting is easy. Make the cot up with three sides. Measure the thickness of the mattress, and drill new holes for the base support which will allow the mattress to sit flush with your bed. Push the mattress across to meet your bed, and plug the gap at the far side with tightly rolled towels, cellular blankets or dense foam. Or you can measure the width of the cot going right up to your own mattress and order a custom one e.g. from babymattressesonline.

The ones with the feet that go under are designed for beds with a "lip".

BertieBotts · 09/05/2021 08:26

I think BoxSpring is the international name for Divan which is why it's called that.

EdithGrantham · 09/05/2021 09:13

Thanks BertieBotts, the IKEA idea sounds like it might work, how did you secure it to your bed?
Didn't realise this was going to be so difficult!

Oh yes sorry forgot about attaching it!

I think we might have used cable ties around one leg of the bed, but we had carpet in the bedroom so it didn't really move anyway. I did check it every night just in case.

You could probably use roof rack ties going the whole way around the bed base if you don't have anything like a leg to tie to.

EdithGrantham · 09/05/2021 20:15

Thanks again, roof rack ties are a great shout! I've measured again and if I take the mattress topper off it actually reduces the height of the bed quite significantly, just need to decide if I'll be comfortable enough without it given its going to be for a limited amount of time.
