Advice needed to stop dd biting her nails

Dd is 13 and a truly lovely girl. She’s a slightly anxious girl (cautious type, well behaved). When feeling a bit anxious she bites her her nails. They’re so low and painful and the only thing that stops her is when she has gels last summer. She’s not allowed gel nails at school though. Does anyone have any suggestions? She wants to stop but the horrible taste stuff doesn’t work.

For added information; I have gels every 3/4 weeks or I bite my nails but never bite them as low as Dd.

Try a different bitter taste one. I've also read put an elastic band on your wrist and ping it if you get the desire to bite your nails. Dont think it works. Monthly manicure at a salon?

Just have clear gel on? School won’t be able to tell but she’ll know and not bite them.

Gel/acrylics are the only thing that work for me. Or pregnancy but I don’t recommend that for her!

I’ve bitten my nails for as long as I can remember. And not a single thing I have tried has ever worked for long.

I'm in my 40's and have been and biting mine down to the quick since I had teeth 😳 but I've have been having some success recently twiddling a fidget toy instead. I bite mine when I'm watching TV, thinking, anxious...

Short, natural acrylics/gel nails.
I bit my nails into my 40’s and having acrylics stopped the cycle. I now have natural nails but if they get long I do start to nibble them.
If the school complain tell them they are to stop her getting infections and whitlows around her nails.

Thanks all. I was wondering if I should email school to explain before hand. They can look and see for themselves how bad her nails are then hopefully they’ll say it’s okay. Dd and I are similar in that we’re not rule breakers so she’d stress about getting into trouble 😆

My daughters used this to stop their thumb sucking and nail biting. Other ones hadn't worked but this apparently was so awful it stopped them. I didn't taste it to confirm how bad it is but both now have lovely nails.

Mavala Stop was the only thing that worked for dd. It’s very spicy, so unless your dd enjoys a vindaloo, I suspect she’d find her mouth burned too much to bite through it.

I was your DD. Please get her some help for her underlying anxiety or these poor coping strategies will just mount and mount over the course of her life.

Her personality type is naturally cautious and an over thinker. She manages this well and we’ve worked with her to help her to understand her personality and the strengths that come from being cautious but also the challenges and the things she needs to add as learned behaviours to help her in life. She’s actually pretty chilled and the nail biting has become a habit so it’s now whenever she’s bored or watching TV. I think it stems from being anxious for her but then I bite my nails and am not an anxious person naturally. Nail biting is fairly common but dd is hurting herself so we need to do something. I’m looking up uv led lamps so we can go gels at home.
