Did you buy anything for your children when they moved out?

My question is did you buy anything for your child when they moved out? If so, what? Did you contribute towards the wedding? If so, how much?
We are in a really good financial position and we have paid our mortgage off. My daughter is moving in with her fiancé and I would like to know what other parents have done / are doing

Do you mean they are moving into a rental? When DD did the same a few years ago we just got them a housewarming present, a microwave.

Now they are buying their first house we are giving her £5,000 as a contribution. I wish we could afford to give more, but we're not in a great financial position ourselves.

When she got her first job we gave her £2,000 towards the car she needed to get to work. Helped her a lot at uni as well with a monthly allowance etc. If there's a wedding we would try and contribute something.

It's good she's our only one!

Everyone's different. My parents are separated but both do well financially. Myself and my sibling have been brought up to be independent and so have never received help with learning to drive/ first cars/ deposits etc.

When I first moved out I was given a box with bedding/ kitchen bits etc but things of a higher quality than I would have bought myself at the time. When I bought my own house my mother paid for my dining table and my dad got me a microwave. I was grateful to be gifted the things I needed so I could spend my money on the decorative things to my taste.

My mum set aside money for me for a wedding but has now given up waiting and said I can use it for stamp duty on my next house!

We got a massive Tesco delivery from my parents and a box from PIL with a vase, placemats, coasters, cook books, some mugs, wineglasses. All nice stuff that we wouldn't have been able to afford otherwise.

My parents are in a good financial position. We had a small deposit saved for a house. They have us £25k, we used £15k and out it towards what we had saved, and spent £10k decorating the house and doing the garden.

When I moved out my parents gave me their second-best spares of crockery, kitchenware, towels, bedding, cutlery etc. All the mis matched things they’d replaced with new over the years but had too much life left to throw away. It saved me a fortune and taught me the value of quality second hand over cheap new. I’ve taken all sorts of bits since then as they’ve upgraded/redecorated.

When my brother set up his first home 10 years later I did the same for him. A few items were the same hand me downs I received!

My parents paid for my weddyand gave me 20 percent deposit 20 years ago.

They gave my sister £1k a month when my brother in law was out of work. They are very wonderful parents.
