4 year old does not stop talking

Sometimes I put him to bed really early cause I just can't take anymore. Thankfully he can't tell the time yet. But from the moment he gets up, until he talks himself to sleep he does not stop. Any words of advice?

Don't worry, he will stop in 9 years time. I'd embrace early evening drinking.

My one is a real chatterbox too. Mostly I think it's adorable but it can get a bit wearing towards the end of the day. That's when we usually go out for a half an hour scoot before bed. They don't tend to be so chatty when they are exhausted 😂

Mine does an impressive filibuster around bedtime. 😁

My almost 4yr old is the same but I love it. Sometimes I do think oh my can u give me some head space. She's bn a great talker since she was a yr old. Her little sister is 17 months and hardly says a word which is frustrating but I don't think I'd be able to cope with 2 little chatter boxes 😆

@Phalarope

In lockdown, I started phoning distant retired relatives and putting my 4yo on to them for twenty minutes when I couldn’t take any more chat Grin
Love this!

My nearly 4yo DS is like this. I also think he's trying to make up for lost time as he didn't speak till he turned 3. Drives me bonkers and amazes me at the same time. My go to words are "really? No way! Ok. Uh huh". He even sings himself to sleep every night.

Yup, same here with a 3.5 year old. And she does the same with her dad in Russian Confused. What’s funny now looking back at old videos on my phone is that she was doing this from 8/9 months or so - obviously not talking but just a constant babble.

I do ask her for quiet time now, I absolutely can’t cope with it all day. She honestly comes home from nursery and gives me a blow by blow account of what the other 8 kids had for lunch, which teachers were there, which songs they sang etc. When we’re eating she’ll look over at me and say “Mum, let’s talk about something.” “What shall we talk about?” “Baked beans.” Aaaaaaaargh.

I feel guilty for being annoyed by it but i csnt even think a thought half the time

MoreMorelos · 25/04/2021 21:38

Hate to break it to you but one of mine is 18 and still hasn't stopped 😂

littlegirlost · 25/04/2021 21:39

My first child is like this and even though dc2 didn't talk til he was 4, it is still tiring ! my dd aged 18 is still the same. Constant commentary. How many points does this course require, what modules are in it, have I done any of this content before do you think? do you think there are more boys than girls in economics? do you think more boys than girls do geography? can you really wear gold and silver together?

It never ends and it all requires a response and if you say mmmmmmmm she'll say ''but which, which is it?''. You can't nod off for a second.

You have all of my sympathies OP.

It won't change. Just the content of the conversation changes!

Moondust001 · 25/04/2021 21:42

I thought "cannot stop talking" was the definition of a 4 year old...

FiveGoMadInDorset · 25/04/2021 21:42

Mine is 12 and still going strong, his sister in the other hand could have taken the vow of silence

somersetsinger · 25/04/2021 22:01

Mine keeps talking as she breathes in, too. There's never a break! (Actually, she has just turned five. Maybe there will be calm soon.)

Embracelife · 25/04/2021 23:33

Get an Alexa
He can talk to her some of the time.

HoppyHop · 26/04/2021 21:52

At DD's first parents evening at primary school I was told by her teacher that she thought DC had used up the average persons daily word count by 10am. DD is now 13years old and I still agree!

It can be very tiring but having an older teen that doesn't talk much I enjoy her chatter!
