Changing nappy at night

Hi everyone. I've always changed my little ones nappy every 2-3 hours during day and during night every 4 hours max which was when he woke for a feed. He is now starting to sleep through longer, he's two months old. Sometimes it's five or six hours before a feed. Or sometimes he dream feeds. Do you wake your baby to change nappy when sleeping or leave until the morning even if it's 7 or 8 hours? If it's only wet of course! A dirty nappy would change immediately. I can't change his nappy when he's asleep as he screams every time as he hates it!!

Don't wake a baby just for a nappy change. Nappies are so absorbent these days that they can easily last 8+ hours, especially if baby doesn't drink anything in that time.

Chickenlickeninthepot · 24/04/2021 06:34

No, leave it! Enjoy the sleep! My DD usually does 9+ hours in the same nappy overnight. I'd only change for a poo now.

god no don't wake them

Definitely leave it. As they feed less at night they wee less. We stopped changing wet nappies at all at night quite soon, as it wakes them up too much.

If you are worried about leaks, sometimes you can size up at night, as long as it still fits well if course.

ivfbeenbusy · 24/04/2021 07:04

I don't wake my twins. Even if they wake for a feed if the nappy feels fine then I won't change it otherwise it wakes them
Up too much and takes longer for me to get them back to sleep

MaMaD1990 · 24/04/2021 07:15

NEVER wake a sleeping baby (no good ever comes of it)! Enjoy the long stretches of sleep and don't worry about it! If you find any leaking, try the next size up for night times and that should sort the problem.

MindyStClaire · 24/04/2021 07:18

DD's nappy lasts 12 hours overnight.

SnugglySnerd · 24/04/2021 07:20

Leave it, it will be fine.

transformandriseup · 24/04/2021 07:28

I started off doing this but after having to go back into hospital again for a bit a midwife told me she never changed nappies at night. It was a real game changer.

headintheproverbial · 24/04/2021 07:42

Don't wake a baby to change a nappy, no. The baby needs the sleep more than the nappy change. The baby would wake of his / her nappy was so wet it was uncomfortable or otherwise needed changing.

Habbyhadno · 24/04/2021 08:59

God no! I only change if they've pooed, otherwise leave it.

DarcyLewis · 24/04/2021 09:01

I have three kids and have never changed a wet nappy at night.

JustFrigginNameChange · 24/04/2021 09:13

Sorry off topic but you're 2 month old sleeps 5-6 hours at a time in the night? I'm so jealous of you right now. My 4 month old wakes up every 2 hours with gas and I'm exhausted Sad

Spudlet · 24/04/2021 09:19

Nope, wet nappies are fine until morning. Dirty ones are different of course, but leave a wet one where it is!

wombatspoopcubes · 24/04/2021 09:37

My 5 month old gets a pampers baby dry on for the night (they last 12 hours). She does wake every 2-3 hours for a feed but goes to sleep right after UNLESS I try to change her nappy, then she's awake for 2 hours. I never wake a sleeping baby.

Volcanoexplorer · 24/04/2021 09:38

God no! Don’t wake them. Be grateful for the sleep.

idontlikealdi · 24/04/2021 09:40

No!!!! Change for a poo but no need for just wee.

Bubbaboy · 24/04/2021 10:11

@JustFrigginNameChange well sounds better than it is! He won't sleep anywhere but on me so he's awake and fussing if he's in his crib next to me. Or wakes every hour at least crying if I do manage to get him in there at all! If he's on me he will sleep 3/4 hours at night but once did a 5 hour stretch. But I can't put him down at any time during the day even for one minute or he screams...as he's got bad wind and reflux so won't go on his back. So he might be asleep but I'm not!!
