Leaking when baby cries

I've recently returned to work after mat leave. I'm mainly working from home. DS (7 mos) is currently in nursery part time and at home with DP part time. Until about 6 weeks ago, I exclusively breasted. Now it's a mixture of breastfeeding and expressed milk.

I'm in a separate room, but the walls are fairly thin. If I hear DS cry, or sometimes just hear him at all, I leak. If DS is at nursery, I don't leak at all, so I don't think it's just due to switching from ebf.

I'm using breast pads but I don't find them very comfortable, so would be grateful for any advice!

I used to leak whenever I heard any baby. It will improve - try breastfeeding bras or vests with spaces inside for pads. I have Sia ones from Amazon and they were a life saver.

It's normal. Folded muslin squares might be more comfortable if you find synthetic pads irritating.

Today I was minding my baby niece, her mum was stuck in traffic and she was due a feed and started crying. My boobs immediately started leaking, she smelled the milk and cried more, so my boobs leaked more... it was a mess.

Leaking when baby cried, leaking when she accidentally brushed my nipple, leaking in the shower, leaking looking at pumping equipment, leaking when my pyjama top brushed my boobs, leaking for no discernible reason at all...

It didn't stop for me till I let my milk dry up. Lactation just sucks.

I used to lean if I looked at a picture of a baby Confused

Bamboo breast pads are really soft and absorbent, I found them much better than single use one. Double layer if you need to!

I had this with other babies too! I’d be on the train to work, hear a random baby and start leaking. I did not find a solution, it just stopped after a while.

Which pads are you using? I will only use Lanisoh ones. More expensive but very absorbent and soft. Tried some cheaper ones and they were rough, soggy and generally horrible.

SamanthaVimes · 23/04/2021 14:15

I found the reusable cotton breast pads from cheeky wipes so much comfier than others I had in case that helps

Thatwentbadly · 23/04/2021 14:35

Reusable bamboo breast pads are much more comfortable.

Flappityflippers1 · 23/04/2021 14:45

I leak a lot, I have close parent breast pads which are super absorbent and very comfortable

Siepie · 23/04/2021 15:49

Thank you for all the tips. I have tried lanisoh disposable pads and Boots reusable and disposable ones. I’ll see if muslin squares or bamboo pads are less irritating.

Many moons ago I had oversupply with my first DC. A midwife taught me how to manage if I got the letdown 'tingle' and started to leak when I wasn't feeding.
Her advice was to make a fist and firmly push the heel of my hand into my boob/body across my nipple and hold it there for about 30 seconds until the tingling stopped. If it helps anyone else then do share Smile

It might make Zoom meetings more interesting if I started doing this Grin
