Breastfeeding and teeth, ouch!

My DD's first two teeth have come through and she's been biting my nipples. One started bleeding this morning and I'm dreading breastfeeding sessions now.
Any tips to prevent the biting?

Oh god I can sympathise! We had 8 teeth by 8 months 🤦🏼 It’s not ideal if you want to feed out and about, but I have found lying down feeding seems to be almost impossible for him to bite. If you are at home it might be worth a shot. Good luck x

I find holding him closer works as if they have larger attachment their tongue should cover their teeth.

Also I was slightly bitten once, when he was distracted by noise and turned suddenly. Ouch. Slathering lanisoh on for a few days helped

Thank you @Caspianberg and @AliceW89! Will try both suggestions. The second one started bleeding today...

DS was teething almost since birth and loved to grind and then bite - only thing to do is delatch as soon as they do. I put my little finger into the corner of his mouth and popped him off and put them down. Eventually DC will learn not do it.

Agree with this! Babies can't bite while actively sucking, you will start to notice when baby is likely to start biting by the change in sucking pattern. Unlatch before they do but if you don't manage to get there in time, unlatch followed by a firm "no biting" is what LLL recommend and it worked for me. They do eventually learn and stop doing it x x

Press them into your boob and they come right off.

Ouch.... I'm so sorry you've had to experience this, it's horrible. My son bit me once and I screamed so loudly he burst into tears and never did it again 🤣 my daughter however had early teeth and tried them out on me on a number of occasions.. I got really paranoid before feeding after she bit me and she picked up on it and wouldn't feed for a while. I found that putting my little finger right next to her mouth as she fed meant that I could slide it in when I felt any chance of a bite coming and that helped. Huge hugs and I hope you find something that works 💐 xx

PP have given you all the good advice. Usually it doesn't last long, but putting your poor vulnerable nipple back in the mouth of a baby that has just bitten it does require nerves of steel. Mine only ever bit when teething - I used to take them off and say sternly "no, mummy doesn't like that" and it didn't take them long to catch on.

Eugh it’s horrible isn’t it... DD did it with bottom two teeth, top two just through and she’s doing it again. I try a firm NO and take her off for a minute. She just giggles at me!

Thanks everyone for the tips!
I've made progress in noticing when she's about to bite so I've at least avoided another really painful cut so far.
@MoorGirl I'm in the same boat, she just giggles at me when I say no. Doesn't bode well for the later years...
