Would you let a 14 year old watch Breaking Bad?

Just that really.
Do you think it's ok?
Or inappropriate for a 14 year old to watch?

I would

IbrahimaRedTwo · 21/04/2021 12:04

I wouldn't let my 14 year old, but my 16 year old watches it.

janlevinson · 21/04/2021 12:04

Depends on a lot of factors.
Are they quite sensitive? Have they watched similar things before? It's a 15 so if they are nearer that end of 14 then it should be fine but only you know the child.

No I wouldn’t, some of the episodes are particularly graphic.

paralysedbyinertia · 21/04/2021 12:08

Hmm. Personally, no, but that's because I found it too disturbing and depressing to watch myself, even as an adult. My 15yo dd would probably be fine with it, she is much less affected by fictional stuff than I am - it doesn't seem to bother her in the same way, so maybe it depends on the child?

I'd still avoid it until she is a bit older, though. There are so many other things to watch instead.

paralysedbyinertia · 21/04/2021 12:09

I should add, I'm pretty relaxed about what dd watches in general. I usually need to think more about censoring stuff for my benefit, rather than hers.Blush

In no way shape or form. And I’m not easily shocked at all but it becomes increasingly brutal and morally murky (again even for someone who doesn’t normally judge shows on that basis), as it goes on. It’s one of the 18’s for a reason show. Great tv but not for early/mid teens.

Yes

Anchoredowninanchorage · 21/04/2021 12:41

No , I loved it but far too dark and depressing for teens.

Thanks for the link 247SylviaPlath.

Depends on the 14 yo - yes in principle but not if they were more sensitive.

CoalCraft · 21/04/2021 13:30

Personally at 14 I wouldn't have been troubled by the sex or violence, but might have been by the drug addiction

It's a 15, not an 18.
janlevinson · 21/04/2021 19:42

Sorry I stand corrected:
IMDB says it's an 15 but DVD covers say 18?!

That's pretty misleading.

Stepawayfromdrgoogle · 21/04/2021 20:07

Netflix says 18.

Epididimonster · 21/04/2021 20:12

My DVDs say 18. I don't let my teens watch it. It's pretty dark and I needed two tries to get through series 1. I also don't know if they'd "get it" - all that burning frustration, bitterness and love is pretty well outside the ken of any teenager I know - they'd just think it was a really addictive story.

Alleycat02 · 21/04/2021 20:20

At 14 I watched plenty of 18-rated things, horror films etc (no idea why as I was always quite sensitive and scared easily!), but tbh Breaking Bad would probably have left me bored out of my mind at that age!

My own children aren't teens yet but as a parent my gut feeling is to say 14 is too young for BB. Although like others have said it depends on the individual 14 year old, how mature they are.
