Newborn sounds like actual dinosaur at night 🥴

Hi all!
Looking for some advice/past experience! My 2 week old is the noisiest sleeper, she honestly sounds like a dinosaur at night! It's a combo of grunting, snorting, guttutal throat sounds and the odd hiccup. She's asleep while making these noises so it's not something that needs settling (I don't think!) But is often coupled with farting or a poo, are these sounds quite typical of trapped wind? She's also squirming around and bending/straightening her legs while making these sounds.
Weirdly she doesn't do it during day time naps or even for the first few hours when I initially put her down at night.
It keeps me wide awake and my other half is on the sofa as he's working so needs sleep. Does anyone have any noisy babies or know if this is trapped wind and how I can help her?!
Thanks all!

My 4 week old is exactly the same! He has silent reflux, atm we’re keeping him upright after a feed, regular winding and breaks during his feed also.

DD did this, god was it loud? Impossible for me to sleep through, though DH somehow managed (lucky bugger).

I think it's something that some newborns just do. Look up "newborn grunting in sleep" or something on YouTube - there are lots of vids and it settled my nerves at least!

Dinosaur is right! I used to call DD "little velociraptor" Grin

It’s perfectly normal. Both my babies did it (they are 9 and 12 now). I think it’s to do with babies’ windpipes being a bit soft still.

This was the case especially with my second. It went away I think around 6 weeks. Not sure exactly but it will go. She is not in any pain. But you made me smile

Purplesparkle34 · 21/04/2021 05:32

Exactly the same with my LO.
She’s 7 weeks old now and getting much better, so hang in there!

PamDenick · 21/04/2021 05:45

Hedgehog noises. Bless.

MozzarellaMonster · 21/04/2021 05:49

Yep... normal 🦖

HereComesATractor · 21/04/2021 06:12

Both mine did this at night - I think it’s something to do with their brain and bowel still learning how to communicate so they strain and grunt unnecessarily. Normal, but so noisy

chutneypig · 21/04/2021 06:15

This takes me back. I couldn’t believe how loud they were at night. We have twins and I remember saying to my DH it sounded like we had a litter of warthogs at the end of the bed. Not that I know what warthogs sound like!

Yes, I've read it's normal for babies to be really noisy at night.

On the other hand, my twins were absolutely silent sleepers. It used to terrify me that they didn't make all the snorting/grunting noises I'd read about!

nocluemummy · 21/04/2021 15:11

Omg my first born did make lots of noises! Dinosaur is right 😳 DH erupts in giggles trying to work in next room when DS naps 😂

I think babies just do that sometimes, mine definitely grew out of it! My HV couldnt stop when she heard so ConfusedBlush

2021expecting · 22/04/2021 01:52

Sounds like wind, especially with the legs stretching out etc!

Llamasally · 22/04/2021 01:56

Same here. Little monster noises. Hence awake! It’s only at night too

Sailor2009 · 22/04/2021 02:02

Mines 4 weeks and makes the same noises. Explaining it to the health visitor and the only description I could think of was "she sounds like the baby velociraptors in Jurassic park"

Thatwentbadly · 22/04/2021 16:08

It’s completely normal. When DD2 was new born and I was up feeding all night I watched all the Jurassic films over a couple of nights and she sounds just like the dinosaurs.

New2020 · 22/04/2021 18:21

Haha wish someone had warned us of this..

Our room sounded like it had a bunch of farmyard animals living in the crib...and I wondered if it was an issue caused by csection

It was only 3 months in we found out it was normal and all the other nct parents were finding this too! It disappears soon

Schulte · 22/04/2021 18:26

DD1 was like this, I used to leave her with DH and sleep downstairs. Nowadays it’s DH making the grunting noises!

SkyBlue20 · 22/04/2021 19:30

My DD (6 weeks) is exactly the same, turns out she has silent reflux - GP prescribed Gaviscon and it helped right away. It’s frustrating, isn’t it, as baby sleeps but you don’t - and of course it sounds really uncomfortable for them, too, the poor things 😔
