Tell me itโ€™s a phase...a very short phase! ๐Ÿ˜…

5.5m old DS...not a bad night time sleeper up until now (weโ€™ll ignore the 4m regression ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿคฃ). Daytime sleep has always been an issue - will only nap on me, DP or in moving pram when out walking. Weโ€™ll work on the nap issue when heโ€™s old enough to be put down in his nursery alone for naps.

Last 3 nights his night sleep has been HORRIFIC! Awake minimum of twice an hour ๐Ÿ˜ Iโ€™ll leave him having a little grunt and grumble but Iโ€™m not happy to let him cry it out so will lift him before he gets distressed. As soon as heโ€™s in my arms heโ€™s out like a light. Within 1min of being put back down, heโ€™s wide awake again. This goes on maybe 3/4 times then heโ€™ll sleep 30 mins or so then the cycle starts again.
I know the ability to link sleep cycles becomes a bit of an issue at this stage and needs to be taught but I wasnโ€™t quite expecting this much if an issue ๐Ÿ˜“ Iโ€™m getting about 10 mins sleep an hour ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…

DP works offshore for 3 weeks at a time. Isn't due home for almost 2 weeks yet. Any tips and tricks to help this mummy get through potentially 2 more weeks of no sleep? ๐Ÿ˜… im not sure how many of those nights I can manage ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

You could take one side off the cot and make it a sidecar cot. Then instead of lifting him into your arms, you can cuddle into him to settle, but extract yourself once he's back to sleep.

Itโ€™ll be just a phase!

I introduced white noise at this point for my little ones. When when they did wake it would be a quick cuddle pack down and quite a firm pat on the bum until they went back to sleep (this could take a while) then when that worked well, I stopped picking up and straight to the pat, then pats got lighter and lighter until they slept well again

@FATEdestiny I donโ€™t feel comfortable having one side off the cot. Iโ€™m a really restless sleeper and tend to fling my duvet and pillows about so I feel safer him being completely separate ๐Ÿ˜Š

@emmaluggs We do use Ewan the dream sheep for white noise but I might try a proper machine with continuous noise rather than one that starts and stops. We already do the firm pat and cuddle but Iโ€™ll definitely try phasing out the lifting as he hopefully improves ๐Ÿ˜Š

@KM38

I downloaded a white noise on our tablet and placed it near the cot, I did have a myhummy which was continuous but chewed through batteries.

Put your pillow under the sheet so you can't throw it around and wear warm PJs and bed socks, then don't use a duvet at all. Then you can have the side off the cot more safely.
