DS keeps taking nappy off and it is getting MESSY

My DS has started taking his nappy off when he does a poo. And today he took his nappy off when I put him down for his nap and wet his bed.

He is 2 yr 4m.

Is this a "phase"? What does one do? It's getting really messy and I have a DD (5m) so can't watch him like a hawk.

Any tips?

oh yes dd has started this but she is only 18 months so to young to train i think, today she shit in the bath! that was fun to clean especially since we have no shower so had to keep rinsing with a bucket!

so no useful advice but lots of empathy....

I would have a conversation with him and tell him how you finding it hard work to clear up the mess and if he could take it off before he needs a wee/poo and do it in the potty / toilet you'll be really pleased. Then keep reminding him to go, reward every success etc, and I'm sure he'll want to please you and can do it, don't forget that before they invented pull ups the average age for potty training WAS about 2 years 4 months it's only since they brought those out it's gone up by 6 months.

Bit of sellotape across the un-doing bits might help him say a bit more secure?

Elsbells · 13/11/2007 14:05

Glad I am not the only one with a DC taking off his nappy.

Guess it is time to try and get him to use his potty. He did it twice this morning and I explained he needed to poo in his potty but he just started saying 'no' over and over and ignored me.

Wish me luck.

OK DS still doing this and I can't seem to find any popper vests for his age (he is 2 and a bit - do they make it for them?)

He won't sit on his potty and I have been trying to explain that if he takes his nappy off he must sit on the it. I have tried bribing too!

No other words of wisdom out there?

My friends DS used to take his nappy off at night from about aged 1. She tried everything duck tape across the tabs, putting his sleepsuit on backwards etc but nothing worked.

Sorry I dont suppose that was very helpful.

I know this is not quite the same but my dd2 who has SN went through a phase of investigating the contents of her nappy and smearing them in her hair, on walls etc. I found a company called 'Revolution Underwear' () which will make poppered vests and all in one sleepsuits in any size which they can't get out of - this might be too drastic though for a short time of wear? Just a thought - www.jj-design.f2s.com/.

I know its messy but try normal pants they catch the poo and it wont be long before he is potty trained.
Kids hate being in wet pants and it will make him aware of when he is doing it.
If you have a friend with a slightly older child ask if they have any old pants that you can have, then you can throw them away with the poo to save on the washing.

I have a 2 years 3 month charge who has recently started doing...

he even got his nappy off with a poopered vest on, and the vest stayed done up but nappy still came off

he now has a pampers easy up pant nappy for his afternoon nap and a poppered vest on top and he hasnt got that off ...yet...

as of the weekend he has now mastered climbing out of his cot though

Elsbells · 15/11/2007 09:07

I guess I am just trying to avoid what the next step will bring and that is MESS.
Argh

Thanks for the advice everyone.
