Summer breastfeeding clothes?

Could anyone recommend somewhere to get some nice summery breastfeeding friendly clothes? I breastfed throughout the winter last time so it was easy to shove on a jumper over the top of a nursing cami without too much thought. Summer is a different matter though - I would usually wear midi dresses but none of the ones I have are suitable. Baby is due in May so I've got a whole Summer wardrobe to buy I think!

Amazon has some great value dresses, loads of different colour options. Seraphine and Juno Jacks both have lovely stuff, but more expensive. There's a great Facebook group called Can I Breastfeed in It? Loads of ideas in there!

I had baby last May, so exactly the same.

I found a few nice dresses with buttons and treated myself to a few silk shirts from Boden. Worked well last summer, and the shirts I have continued to wear this winter with breastfeeding vest underneath and cardigan when cold.

Have a look at b shirts. I layered them with a cardi or shirt which worked well.

I’m in the same position, November baby last time but this one will be late May/early June. I’ve found some nice dresses in H&M and another from New Look. Advice is to look out for the fabric as you don’t want to be in that horrible viscose/polyester pattern that makes you sweat buckets.

BertieBotts · 20/04/2021 12:24

H&M vests with the nursing bra built in are brilliant and I wore them just as tops. Then they can also be sleep tops or underwear for winter.

High waisted skirt/shorts/trousers with a loose top works quite well. You lift up the top and baby covers the gap well. Or a cami top you can pull down and carry round a loose shirt (cropped styles are fantastic for this) that you can shove on over the top - I found a tshirt much easier to use than a muslin or scarf. Due to size/shape I never felt comfortable feeding baby in public with just an open button up shirt because on me quite a lot of upper boob would be visible but many people button up shirts are great.

Ditto, having breastfed 3 babies I've never bought nursing wear, usually kept outings to straight after feed as that was what fitted our routine anyway, so knew I didn't need to feed again for about 4 hours.
Babyiskickingmyribs · 20/04/2021 12:50

@De88 Oh, I fed my baby in public all the time. He would never have gone 4 hours without a feed before about 10 months so trying to fit outings in around feeds would not have worked for us. I’m glad it worked well for you though. I meant that I couldn’t just wear a button up shirt and open that to feed without showing more boob that I was comfortable with. I did wear a lot of button up shirts in winter with a light loose tshirt underneath - so T shirt comes up and button up shirt gets opened. But in summer that combo was too hot and I found other combinations worked better.

Thanks everyone - will have a look at some of these ideas. The idea of carrying a t shirt round to help cover up sounds good - I have a particularly prudish set of in laws who used to turn away awkwardly when I was fully covered in a woolly jumper last time! Doesn't do wonders for the confidence department surprisingly!

I've got this same issue and just got a load of tops from new look that have button or tie fronts. I've also bought some boxy t shirts and then some strap tops for underneath so I can lift the t shirt up and pull the strap down and still be covered. They had a fair few button and tie front dresses in the sale too.
After breastfeeding in public for the first time the other day I can say a lightweight spring scarf came in handy to drape over baby without faffing around with muzzys etc.

Could you pop one of these in your changing bag? Then you can wear wrap dresses, camis etc and be covered too without being too hot in summer x

ASOS is fab and often has a sale on...lovely nursing dresses on there.

I’ve bought stuff from PatPat- I know it’s a cheapo site but there is actually some quite nice stuff and the quality is fine- probably won’t last forever but it doesn’t need to for breastfeeding, just one or two summers, and the prices are less than a fiver. I’ve got T-shirts, vest tops, dresses. They all have handy holes and flaps for feeding so feels more discreet than pulling down a non-nursing vest top or pulling up a non-nursing T-shirt (which I also do sometimes but it reveals more!)
