Alternative to the mini micro deluxe scooter

I’m looking to get my DS a scooter but really don’t fancy paying the £75 price tag for the mini micro deluxe

I’ve tried local Facebook pages etc and they’re still going for around £60 so doesn’t feel like much of a saving

Can anyone recommend any other slightly cheaper versions that are similar?

A trunki from Halfords - they're fab, foldable & comes with carry strap, my DD loves hers!! Think it was £50 worth every penny

@mnahmnah do you think the scooter would work for a 3 year old? DS is fairly tall and will be 3 in a few months so considering getting it for his birthday

Are they really going for that much? I’ve seen them for £10-20 secondhand! I’ll start rescuing the ones I see at the dump & flog them on!

Tbh I've come across lots of scooters and none are as light/user friendly and hardwearing as the micro. Especially as you have a younger dc I'd invest.

I just had a look on eBay, to see if I was wildly out of touch, & I reckon you could get the deluxe for £30-£40.

You could get away without having the deluxe until he’s 4 ish tbh, the standard mini micros go cheaper, I was thinking of those when I said it was less up thread !

We got it for him last summer when he was 3 yr 5 mths. He’s tall for his age. Should be absolutely fine and plenty of room for growth too

Generally what’s the feeling about scooters? Do they get much use out of them

I’m not sure if he even needs it or would use it or if it’s something I just think he should have

He’s already got a balance bike and other things but I wasn’t sure if he needed a scooter as well

Nothing beats the mini and maxi micro. My kids have had so much use out of theirs, easy to chuck in the boot, unlike strapping on a bike rack.

Mine are 10 and have the maxis, they've had them since they were 6 1/2 and they're still going strong. They'll move up to the two wheeled ones next but loads of older kids still use stunt scooters at the skate park.

If you do a lot of walking you'll get TONS of use out of them. Ours were used for every nursery, school run and longer walk for many years. If you go everywhere by car and scooter is just for playing in the garden it's less worth it

Yeah, we have always done school run, shops etc on scooter. Masses of use!

Decathlon sells scooters. Micro brand is very overpriced

John Lewis do a nice one for £50

I've seen second hand micro scooters on ok condition selling for £20 ish on Facebook market place though!

The mini and maxi were worth every penny for us as we walked lots and used them on the school run.

At the moment I can’t see them using it to get places, more for fun around the garden or if we go on a walk etc. Not necessarily to go to the shops etc.

Which is why I don’t want to spend loads on something that I’m not sure will get loads of use

Will keep an eye out for some second hand ones and any good offers or maybe that Amazon one linked further up

The micro ones are really good, mine use them loads. It seems a lot when you first buy it but when you consider he’ll use it for about 4 years and probably use it quite a lot when he’s a bit bigger it’s less then £20 a year for something they use a lot. At 2.5 he might not use it loads but at 3.5+ he likely will. I’m surprised they sell for that much second hand in your area though, they go for about £20-30 round me! I’ve bought 3 now and always wait for a 20% discount code on Jojo Maman Bebe to get them

You could look at Globber as well, terrible name but good scooters. And yes you’ll get the use out of them, I regret not just buying a good one in the first place! Look carefully at your age gap and height of eldest, as at 3 or 4 they begin to need a slightly bigger scooter ideally. The mini micro is good from 18months up.

I just don't think any of the other scooters are as good. The micro scooters are lighter, tougher, steer better and are reparable if you need a new wheel/brake etc.

DS used his mini micro deluxe every day for 3 years, and it was pretty much as good as new after a clean. I sold it for £30, and around here you can get a good 2nd hand one for that.

Ours had/ have the smart trike scooters when they were smaller which is think is a similar price but they had a lot of use. My daughter is now 6 and we got her a 2 wheeled micro scooter for her 5th birthday.

I think they're much more likely to get a lot of use out of the sturdier, more expensive scooters as they're easier to ride and manoeuvre. Mine are 6 and 4 and both scooter everywhere.
