Washing nappies for 2 children

Ok so dd is already in cloth. And LO2 is also going to be in cloth and we're all very happy about the whole thing

Currently I dry pail and wash nappies every 3-4 days at 40 degrees. So I was just thinking that I could just step up my washing and do it every other day, or however often I need to without making any other changes. But have now been told that if you are washing nappies from 2 babies in together then you either need to soak in sanitiser before washing or wash at 60. Is this right?

Obviously I'd rather continue washing at 40 if I can but at the same time don't want to risk transferring bacteria from toddler to newborn if it is the case.

Anyone know?

Oh and I have sized nappies so they won't be wearing each others nappies-they'll just be sharing a bucket and a wash cycle (not sure if that makes a difference or not but thought it might be worth a mention).

Nah, it'll be fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine. Just do a blast at 60 every couple of washes.

Ours shared nappies and we dry pailed and washed every couple of days, usually at 40 degrees. I hadn't really thought about tranferring bacteria but in our house newborn babies would probably be exposed to toddler infections anyway just by daily proximity.

Oh good! (and even better cos I really don't like the lady that told me that so I can now tell her she was wrong )

When my youngest was born I dry pailed in two buckets one for wet and one for dirty, the dirty ones were always washed at 60 which I feel is especially important when they have their jabs although the wet would be washed at 40. The only reason I would wash all at 60 would be if one had thrush.

Did read on the nappylady site that for newborns up to 3 months )before they have any immunity of their own) you should wash cloth nappie at 60. Is in the info bit of the site I think.

I washed as normal, 40 for both kids - I only had 6 months of 2 in cloth, didn't change much from 1 - just upped the amount of washing.

I dry pailed and washed at 40, in some ways was easier as I just did a wash every night. Had 2 in cloth for about 14 months!

I never even thought of this - had 2 in cloth for a good few months and they shared a bucket/washer the lot!

12mths between my girls both were/are in MEOS and they just shared a bucket and a wash. Just did a load every other day and didnt even think about cross contamination. Once a week would chuck wash in on 60.
