Recycling formula tubs??

Can you recycle them? Aptamil specifically.

We have a bin for “plastic, glass and cartons” - it shows orange juice cartons on the picture (like Tropicana ones). In my mind Aptamil tubs are the same type of mixed materials but I got a sticker on my bin saying they couldn’t lift it because it was contaminated 🤔

Keep them and upcycle! Plant pots /wind chimes /storage for the kitchen/playroom. Wish I had kept some!!

KM38 · 16/04/2021 10:10

@Aprilshowersandhail I’m definitely not in need of any more storage 😅😅 DH has kept some to use in the shed and I’ll offer them on my local community Facebook page but we go through 2 a week so I doubt anyone will want that many 😅😅

It's mixed material so they can't recycle it - I called the council to check a couple of years ago. So frustrating

KM38 · 16/04/2021 14:43

@Aprilshowersandhail if you happen to be in Ayrshire in Scotland then I’m more than happy to keep them for you! Lol. If not then ask for some on your local community pages - I’m sure plenty of people would love to get rid of them that way rather than throw them out 😊

@Chickenlickeninthepot That’s so frustrating 😓 you’d think with the amount that is sold the big companies might have had it raised a lot as an issue and worked on different packaging! Even a pouch would be better!

Pre Covid I went every May actually! To Craig Tara Haven site! Missed 2 trips now. Gutted!

KM38 · 16/04/2021 17:21

@Aprilshowersandhail Fingers crossed this is all coming to an end and you can get back there soon!! I’ve never been - it’s a bit too close to home for us, but I know lots of people that travel to go and absolutely love it 😊

The farm along the road there is fantastic!!

MariaDingbat · 16/04/2021 19:48

Probably not much use of your little one is happy on aptimel, but Hipp organic come in a cardboard box that is completely recyclable.

KM38 · 16/04/2021 22:40

@MariaDingbat Had to move to formula quite suddenly at 3months so grabbed Aptamil as it’s all they sold at the shop in our wee village! DS developed reflux about 4m and is now on Aptamil Anti-Reflux as we were advised to keep the brand the same 😔 if it weren’t for that then I would give HIPP a try - it feels so wasteful throwing away so many tubs!

A lot of arts and crafts people love them - you could put an ad on Gumtree to see if anyone wants them locally.

KM38 · 17/04/2021 02:31

@GrumpyHoonMain Yeah I’ll save them up and do this whenever I have a wee collection from now on 😊 I’d rather they could go to some kind of use than just getting dumped!

I have twins so you can imagine how many I'm going through per week.....interested to know what they can be used for so I can try my hand at it and feel less guilty about the environment

ChampooPapi · 17/04/2021 17:10

You could just switch to hipp organic anti reflux, it has all the same ingredients so it really shouldn't make any difference

KM38 · 17/04/2021 17:15

@ivfbeenbusy I can only imagine how many you get through 😅🙈 and I applaud you on managing twins 😅 DS is my first and I’m just about scrapping by managing one 🙈🤣

@ChampooPapi DS has a very sensitive tummy and it’s taken a while to get his reflux under control so won’t be changing anything that’s got a chance of upsetting it!! GP and HV both advised that changing brand is not advised 🤷🏻‍♀️

@KM38 I always find it a bit questionable when they advise this, especially if your baby is over a few months old because by law they have to have the same ingredients. I do understand the sensitive tummy thing, one of my twins has similar but if we ever have to give sma instant or aptimal instant when we are out (she had hipp organic normally) she is absolutely fine. I have 4 children and have breast fed the first two then mixed fed and used formula exclusively for my last two, and they were all absolutely fine with switching. Not to say you will be 100 percent but you could try? We also use infant gaviscon so I do get it. Worth mumsnetting threads on this, the consensus seems it's alot to do with brand power and that most formulas are much of a muchness ☺️

KM38 · 18/04/2021 06:21

@ChampooPapi Yeah they’re really well regulated these days and have to contain certain things but their bulking ingredients can be in different quantities 😊 Honestly, it’s taken so long to get his wee tummy on track that I won’t be changing unless j absolutely have to 😊
How does yours get on with the gaviscon? That’s the first thing the GP got us to try for DS and he prescribed it at completely the wrong dose 😔 I only noticed after 2 feeds and poor DS was so sore and constipated for about 4 days 😔 even after we get the dosing sorted out, every few days he would get really blocked up and sore 😔

I'm currently developing an app for recycling in the UK. I'd really appreciate if you could take some time to complete this short survey on recycling habits of UK families.
