DS - coming up to 2 1/2 and I want to start the dreaded training. He's at nursery 3 full days where they are happy to work to my schedule but they dont use potties at all as they have mini toilets and they wont use pull-ups as they dont believe in them. Has any body else in the same situation. We (me and DS) have been talking about toilets and potties and whenever I say you can start to go on the pottty soon - he says no, toilet!! Any suggestions. Downstairs I thought I might try those potty seat things that look like chairs/ and could possibly be called a mini toilet rather than a potty. We dont have a downstairs loo. Will get mini loo seat at step for upstairs.
I s'pose Ive just got to go for it at some stage!! Just wondered if anybody else in similar sit.

Can you take in your own potty? We did to DD's nursery during the early stages of potty training, so as not to confuse her too much. Nursery were fine with this.

Have to say that I don't thibnk it is on that nursery is dictating to you their beliefs on potty training - it should be your choice and they do their best to follow them. DD's nursery girls weren't keen on Pulls Ups (not for PT by the way) as they were more difficult to change - have to remove clothes, etc. But I still used them as this is what we preferwed.

BTW I don't think Pull Ups are ideal for during PT. We found it best to just go cold turkey with the pants.

As soon as DD was settled into being PT'd thopugh at nursery she always chooses to use the little toilets, rather than a potty, and used to take great pleasure in ebing able to tell me she was using the toilets too.

Good luck!

Thanks hulababy. I think you're right about nursery dictating to me. Im pretty sure that they wouldnt be too keen on me bringing in a potty. the thing about nursery is its all so compact - whereever they are the toilet is near. i spoke to another mum who agreed that they dont make it easy but that it does work. She said she just used a potty at home as well. Well - I will just have to see! Im dreading it.

would definitely say that if you are PT just go cold turkey - don't use pull ups. It's just confusing for the child. If they're ready just move them to pants and make sure you ahve lots of pairs!

I also bought cheap jogging pants (less than £2 a pair) from Asda for potty training because they are easy up/down and I didn't care what happened to them.
