Smart Trike in shops?

I'm just looking for some opinions here.

My nearly 2 year old is not great in a supermarket and won't always sit in a trolley. I have tried going round holding hands but my little one either wants to be carried or tries to run off. I also bought a set of backpack reins but this doesn't seem to help either.
We recently bought a trike with the pram harness and it has a handle for the parent to control. It's a 3 in 1 so currently it's on the setting where my toddler cannot control the pedals etc so no risk of rushing off or escaping.

Is it acceptable to take one of these to the supermarket specifically? I wouldn't take one in a small shop.

Thanks!

You would need to be incredibly careful not to bump into people. It's not the same as a pram or a trolley I don't think as people wouldn't be expecting to see it and the bulk of it will be down low below the eyesight of someone pushing a trolley of shopping.

There's also the question of what you do when they're too old for the harness or the handle but they're used to being allowed on their trike in shops.

Finally, how will you manage to actually do your shopping? Where will you put it?

I do sympathise, both of mine were hell getting into a shopping trolley and some of the supermarket tantrums were legendary, but in the long run I think personally it's a battle that you just have to stick with. I got very good at getting reluctant legs into the seat and would take a snack that they only got when they were sitting nicely. It's a phase that generally passes.

Depends how much shopping you're getting. Our supermarket is the only local shop we have so if we've taken DD for a walk on her trike then we'll call in to grab a few bits with her in it and it's never been a problem, might be a pain for a full stop though

Will it work with holding a basket? To be honest I avoided the supermarket with toddlers as much as possible unless I was just popping in for one or 2 things (unless strapped in a pushchair). Just too much stress.

I find ours harder to manoeuvre than a pram or trolley so would probably say it's not for the supermarket as it's likely to be awkward to use and people won't be expecting to see something lower down.

If yours is easy to turn and it's quiet then it should be OK though.

I would be worried about someone tripping over it tbh.

Just put him in a pushchair.

We tend to go for a walk and go into the supermarket while passing on the way home for a few bits if needed rather than the full shop.

Thanks for all your replies Smile
