Why is the milk so frothy suddenly?

Just looking for some help and suggestions as DH and I are all out of ideas. DS (5 months) is FF and over the past week or so every bottle we make up has a lot of foamy bubbles in and sometimes the formula doesn’t mix well causing little lumps and we can’t work out why.

We’ve had loads of issues with DS and wind/reflux since he was born but as he got older things started to get better and he was much improved. But with the milk now going all foamy he’s having more issues with wind. We’ve tried a new box of formula, changed the bottles and also checked the temp of the water we are making it up with as we have a kettle that will boil to 70 degrees so we wondered if that has stopped working but it’s been fine.

We’re at a loss as to why this is happening suddenly and how to stop it as it’s not good for DS to be taking in loads of air. Any ideas??

It's not aptamil is it?
I've seen other threads with frothy milk

Shefliesonherownwings · 12/04/2021 17:32

@dementedpixie no it’s Cow and Gate

Cow and Gate and aptamil are made by the same company. Could you try a different brand?

I’ve seen a few threads about this recently. I wonder if they’ve changed something in the recipe.

Hello! I could have written this post myself. All of a sudden I cannot get rid of the lumps in the milk, no matter what I try? We also use cow and gate and it’s been fine up till now?

Did you manage to find a solution - please help! Smile

Shefliesonherownwings · 30/06/2021 16:51

@mummy1202 I’m afraid we didn’t find a solution really. We started making up the bottles in advance, flash cooling and putting them into the fridge so they’d be flatter when we needed them which seemed to work though that’s probably not the ‘ideal’ way.

I’ve noticed Cow and Gate have just updated their formula and the powder seems to dissolve better so hopefully they’ve sorted the problem.

Thank you! Did you find there was still clumps of formula at the bottom after little one had drunk it? I can’t seem to find a solution either.

Shefliesonherownwings · 30/06/2021 17:17

We ended up just swirling each bottle around for ages after we’d made it to make sure all the lumps were gone which helped. Since the new formula has come out, there seems to be less lumps.

@Shefliesonherownwings my little one has been a lot more windy and unsettled since we started the new tub of updated formula. Did you notice anything?

Lonoxo · 04/07/2021 20:16

What teat and bottle are you using? We had to change from slow flow to medium flow.

mummy1202 · 04/07/2021 20:31

@Lonoxo we are using Mam bottles with the first size teat. Hadn’t actually thought about going up a size! Did if help with wind? Thank you!

Louisa4987 · 04/07/2021 20:34

We are using mam bottles with size 3 teats and it still gets stuck it's infuriating when you're trying to feed in the night with difficult babies anyway! I have twins and they've both been on cow and gate since birth and it's only been an issue since it changed. We also have a ridiculous amount of froth at the end of a feed too. I've just bought a different brand to try because it's ridiculous.

Lonoxo · 05/07/2021 12:36

He’s still a windy baby but there’s less froth and feed times are shorter.
