Just out of interest, do you go to bed when your baby does?

Ds (16 weeks) usually goes to sleep between half eight and half nine in the evening. He still wakes up once in the night to be fed and wakes at 6. I go to bed with him - does anybody else do this?

Yup. Mine is still under 6 months so needs someone in the room with him when he’s sleeping. He goes down at 7.30 - 8:00 and my husband and I watch something in bed then go to sleep at 9:30 - 10:00

Wallywobbles · 11/04/2021 08:54

Good hod no.

Wallywobbles · 11/04/2021 08:55

Baby went to bed at 7pm.

No mine sleeps in the living room while we eat dinner and watch TV. She goes to sleep at about 8.30pm and has a dream feed before I take her upstairs at about 10.30ish.

ASomers · 11/04/2021 09:04

I used to until baby moved into her own room at 6 months. She's 8 months now and I still only stay up for 30 mins before going to bed. It's just the best way to maximise sleep. I used to be in bed by 7 most nights 😮

Gingeranimals · 11/04/2021 09:08

Mine is 10 weeks and goes to bed anywhere between 7.30 and 9pm. I then put the baby monitor on and stay downstairs until 10pm. Having some time to relax without needing to think about her is heaven!

lljkk · 11/04/2021 09:11

Mine had big day naps when I got stuff done; so I tried to go to sleep as soon as possible after they did, around 9pm

We do the same as this, watch TV in bed from 8
SweetAsANutt · 11/04/2021 09:13

No. I always used to let him fall asleep in the living room with us then just take him in the bedroom when we were going to bed. It worked for us and never disturbed him.

SweetAsANutt · 11/04/2021 09:13

Sorry I meant yes, not no!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 11/04/2021 09:15

Yup, she usually has a last bottle about 9.30, then struggles about with reflux for between an hour and a half and 3 hours, so can't cmfet to sleep until she settles. Dp and I both go to bed at the same time as her (she sleeps beside me). The older kids are put to bed when we go aswell. The whole house revves around her 🤣

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 11/04/2021 09:16

Revolves not revves 🙄

Yes, looking forward to getting my evenings back when she turns 6 months though! She sleeps well enough now that I don't need the extra sleep so I read or listen to something on my phone using headphones (wouldn't watch stuff as she seems quite sensitive to light changes so I'd worry she'd wake up.)

I’m the same as this, I think it’s the only thing that keeps me sane having a bit of time with no baby at the end of the day.
MagicMatilda · 11/04/2021 09:32

Up until about 5 months I went to bed very soon after my boys did. I was always in bed by 8pm. One particularly bad day, I was in bed at 6:45pm, asleep by 7pm.

Who stays with her?

Ours gets disturbed by the television - it can be a pain!

My twins didn't have a bed time (or any kind of sleep routine) until they went into their own room at 6 months. Prior to that we'd all go up together between 9:30 and 10pm and rarely be downstairs to start the day before lunchtime
Once they moved into their own room, I gradually took them up a bit earlier every few nights until we got to around 7pm at about 9 months. To be honest I never really gave it much thought but it worked out really well for us.

Gingeranimals · 11/04/2021 10:12

@daffodilsandprimroses she sleeps on her own until I come up, DP and I both stay downstairs. I know the recommendation is never to leave them on their own before six months but I don’t stick to that rigidly. She has all of her lunchtime naps on the patio in the pram with the baby monitor too because she sleeps so much better out there! And I just check her often.

Lazypuppy · 11/04/2021 10:14

No i never did. Up to about 12 weeks she just stayed in the lounge with us, after that we put her upstairs in her cot with the baby monitor.

Doireallyneedaname · 11/04/2021 10:22

When mine was little we kept him downstairs with us until we went to bed around 10. When they’re that little they just sleep all the time anyway and we weren’t implementing a routine yet.

Now he’s 1 (and for the lash 6/7 months) he goes down in his bed upstairs and we stay downstairs.

BertieBotts · 11/04/2021 10:29

If I'm tired, yes.

In general, I think the advice to stay with them for every single sleep is overkill, particularly after 4 months and/or if they're spending the largest chunk of the night in the room with you. The increase in risk over that couple of hours must be absolutely miniscule yet the benefits of having some time separate from your baby (if that's something you want) or for the baby to sleep in a dark/quiet environment are huge.

Everyone is free to make their own decision, and of course the benefits of room sharing/risks of SIDS don't disappear magically between 7-10pm, but it's about balancing stuff so it's sensible IMO. I was always OK with that risk.

Chelyanne · 11/04/2021 10:47

Nope. When we have babies I keep them downstairs with me in the travel cot until I go to bed. Older kids, I like a couple of hours of alone time before I go to bed and as I have a teen this means late bed times.

Mamamamasaurus · 11/04/2021 11:07

Mine are 4 & 6 and I'm usually in bed (watching ipad) before them..... Does that count?

daffodilsandprimroses · 11/04/2021 11:13

Er well I know they are always your babies but not quite what I meant no!

I went up to bed at 7pm every night with my baby and sat watching films.
