Making formula in advance

Looking for advice! Nhs website says to make up each feed when you need them. I have been feeding ready made formula but that's too expensive so looking to change to formula. I don't want to use perfect prep machine, I have been advised not to as my baby is premature and also has bad reflux and trapped wind which I've heard the perfect prep can exasperate. Do you really have to make the feeds up during the night?? Cooling the kettle for thirty minutes etc?? Or is it ok to premake the occasional bottle. What's the difference between me keeping an opened ready made formula bottle in the fridge for 24 hours (as per the bottle instructions) to pre making a powder formula bottle and putting it in the fridge? I'm confused! But don't want to risk baby getting sick by doing things wrong!

I make up all the bottles and then store in the fridge for up to 24hrs. When I need one I warm it by standing in hot water.

By the way you don’t need to wait for the boiled water to cool for 30 minutes, you just need to use it within 30 mins so it’s still hot enough to kill bacteria in the formula. No need for perfect prep and like you say there are concerns about them

We had a perfect prep at home but when we didn't use that eg when out and at others houses we basically repeated what the perfect prep does, always having a jug of cool boiled water out on the side. So x ml of boiled water, powder in and stir (to kill bacteria) and then topped up with cool boiled water. It takes two mins x

My daughter fills sterilised about 8 bottles with the cooled, boiled water once a day. Then all you need is to add the powdered milk as and when you need it. Simple and easy Smile

@Katyowl I don’t mean to be rude but as I understand it the water should be at least 70c to kill the bacteria in the formula powder. It’s fine to make up bottles in advance and store in the fridge for up to 24 hrs but the water must be hot when you add the powder.

I did all bottles for the day in the fridge. Most important bit is the formula powder hitting the right temp water as the powder isn't sterile until you do that

She reheats the water in jug of boiling water... incidentally her son is one today and in perfect health and my daughter has barely had a day of illness since she was born and I made all her bottles up from scratch at the beginning of the day including powder!
