People stopping to talk when baby will only sleep in moving pram

Don't get me wrong it's lovely that people want to say hi, but my 5 month old wakes as soon as we stop moving the pushchair.

Some people I have never met and others I say hi to in passing. There are one or two who just love to tell you their life stories. I have tried waving as they approach and saying 'got to keep moving or she'll wake!' but they somehow start a convo anyway and I hate being rude.

Any tips? Or general affinity from others who have motion-loving babies?

Say we have to talk and walk otherwise she’ll wake. And keep walking don’t stop.

Push pram back and forth on the spot while you chat? Depends how much you want to speak to the person, I guess.

Just don't stop? I did this all the time when my ones were little. Keep on moving and they either keep up or peel off!

I remember getting soooooo annoyed at dog walkers who would shout for thier (bloody unleashed) dog just as they walked past the buggy with my sleeping kid in it. The PFB rage is real!

Good suggestions, I think I need to be firmer! Even pushing pram back & forth she wakes. Or going into a shop, she picks up on the smoother floor!

Yes! Yesterday we walked past a sausage dog that barked like a Rottweiler! Or those damn motorbikes with air filters to make them extra noisy Angry

Oh god I feel your pain. So many times I've had the rage at perfectly lovely people saying a jolly 'hello!' because the baby has only just nodded off. And the dog walkers shouting at their ruddy dogs, aghhhh!

FTEngineerM · 10/04/2021 13:40

I just carry on whilst whispering sorry, he’ll wake up if I stop.

My DCs sleep comes before a strangers feelings 😂

ASomers · 10/04/2021 14:05

Oh god I know, its so annoying!! I'm in the same boat. I even turn around and walk the opposite way if I'm approaching someone talking loudly on the phone, or road works... Or children shouting... Etc etc...I feel your pain.

So glad I'm not alone! My DS was the same. Would stroll to town for a coffee with other Mums after Baby Sensory and their babies would remain asleep for the next hour, but my boy would wake as soon as we parked up!

@MaizeBlouse I get so irrationally angry at people making noise when I’m out walking my baby to sleep, even though they have every right to speak as loudly as they want outdoors in the middle of the afternoon 😂 I’m like for gods sake shut up (well, a bit more colourful language than that).
I’ve had to practically run away from dogs parking and alarms going off 🤣
A kid started asking me questions one time about my baby and I had to just keep walking like sorry kid your questions really aren’t worth waking my baby up for 😂

NewMum0305 · 11/04/2021 16:53

Oh my goodness this takes me back! My daughter was exactly the same - agree with PPs, just keep moving!

MaizeBlouse · 12/04/2021 12:47

Haha yes I remember all of this too. The quickly turning around if I saw a particularly noisy dog/child/car/adult in the distance.

I remember once seeing a mum on the high Street frantically pressing buttons on an incredibly loud white noise machine and hanging it in her buggy to help keep her baby asleep. It gave me a wry smile.

Have a look at the Rock it Rocker. Won’t solve your problem of random stops in the street, but if you meet a friend in the park might mean you don’t have to push back and forth ☺️
