Baby doesn't cry when nappy dirty...should I be worried?

Just been to her 6-8 week check and discussed her never ending nappy rash. GP said it was highly unusual that she didn't cry for a change. Is this right? FTM now with something else to worry about...

Do manufacturers give instructions on how often to change for wees? I have never noticed.

SummerHouse · 07/04/2021 15:42

I think manufacturers might have a vested interest in how often you change their nappies. Grin

DD never complained about her nappy. We know she pee's like anything so we check every 3 hours unless it's poop which is quickly taken off and we definitely know the sign that she's doing it (goes very quietly and stares into space. Never seen someone concentrate on pooping before...). Never thought it was something to worry about as some babies would also sleep through the night so they wouldn't get changed till the morning. Nappies these days have either a 8 hour dryness for size 1/2 nappies or 12 hour dryness for size 3+ so should be absorbing their pee quickly.

Why do people make these comments?

I can't see how that is abnormal, surely some babies do and some don't?

I check my daughter every 2-3 hours except at night. When she poops it's quite noisy so you can't miss it.

I'm probably really late to this, but I noticed yesterday that the nappies we have have a yellow line down the front and the line turns blue when the nappy is wet (Sainsburys and aldi) I never knew before! Felt a bit stupid, was just going to say you could peak at that rather than having to open up the whole nappy.

My daughter hasn't had nappy rash (she's had everything else though, baby acne, dry flaky skin and a little bit of cradle cap) and I attribute it largely to making sure she's dry before I put a new nappy on. I use these baby flannels that are super soft and I just clean and rotate them. I haven't even used the sudocrem I bought before the was born

My baby doesn’t cry when he’s wet or dirty. Never has. So I have to check regularly! I didn’t realise it mattered.

From the pictures, these look all right and the seller has 100% good feedback.

Mine never cried to let me know. Still doesn’t let the know and he’s 1. We can tell though because of his facial gestures and noises Grin

Just on this thread
DS seems to have a dirty nappies early morning. Should I change or let him sleep it out? He's becoming cranky little and could do with him getting full nights sleep but also I appreciate nappy change is important.
As for him having a dirty nappy, he never says I check.

JollyRanchess · 25/06/2021 19:29

My baby doesn’t cry for a change either, so I just keep on top of really regular changes myself.

Might just be anecdotal but we use cloth nappies and my baby has never had nappy rash even once - might be worth giving them a go in case they help yours?

Onthegrapevine · 25/06/2021 21:52

Mine didn’t cry for a nappy change when he was little! We could tell though as he’d make the most hilarious faces and sounds whilst doing it.

parsnipsnotsprouts · 25/06/2021 22:02

I don’t think it’s unusual for them not to cry but can’t you smell it? Mine never sat in it long because I have a sensitive nose. None of mine have had nappy rash or even a pink bum. Always used a good slather of petroleum jelly

Kokosrieksts · 25/06/2021 22:30

My baby was never bothered about a dirty nappy. You just need to check them after every feed.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 25/06/2021 22:55

Nope. DS2 hates even a wet nappy, where as DS1 would have sat wallowing in his own poop forever until I noticed. Are you sure the nappy rash isn’t thrush?

ladygindiva · 25/06/2021 23:06

All three of mine were completely unphased by poo in their nappy. Quite happy to wait for me to notice 😂

Hardbackwriter · 25/06/2021 23:13

DS1 never cared at all - even when he got to an age where he'd tell us he'd pooed (at which point we potty trained) it was a statement of fact not something he had any distress about! DS2 does cry if his nappy is dirty but not if it's wet.

I don't find it a strong smell until they're weaned - I can smell it if I do the bum sniff (classy) but often not otherwise.
