Wet eczema

I use topi al steroids for baby's eczema alongside emollients. However his face has got really bad in last two days.

Was looking crusty around his mouth and this morning now seems to have larger 'wet' areas.

Doesn't seem too bothered by it, and have a GP appointment in two weeks but going to see if I can get him seen sooner as he hasn't had this wet type eczema before!

Be great to know any suggestions of how I can control it.

My baby had wet eczema. Antibiotics and eumovate were the only things that made it better

I would say you need to get to the gp sooner as weepy excema can easily become infected, they will likely swab for infection and prescribe an antibiotic/antiseptic cream. I have fucidic acid cream alongside steroid and emollient and if there's and patches that look weepy I use that to prevent infection. Make sure your hands are clean every time you use emollient and if it's in a tub use a clean spoon every time. What emollient do you use? Might be worth asking for a different one if it's not helping his face, we use a 50/50 petroleum jelly one which creates a good barrier. You have my sympathy, excema is so tricky to deal with xx

Thanks both. I'll bring forward the GP appointment to tomorrow.

We have been using Aveeno and also have been trying Dermol 500 and Diprobase which was prescribed for something else.

Do you think I could try Vaseline to act as a barrier? Am I ok to still use the 0.5% hydracortisone on his cheeks?

Yes you can use vaseline as a barrier on his cheeks, like I said use a spoon and clean hands while it's weeping. Hydrocortisone is fine for his cheeks as well. Is he drooly? I always keep a muslin with me and try and keep my babies face dry as much as possible. You can request a thicker emollient for his face as well xx

He is drooling as he's 7 months and teething. I'll definitely request a thicker emollient tomorrow. Thanks for replying! Hope to get it cleared up ASAP for him xx

Bless him , my little boy is 7 months as well. I also sit with a muslin every time I'm feeding him purees and don't let any of it sit on his face as I find that makes it worse so I'm always dabbing at him! We were also prescribed an anti histamine for him to have daily and some special silk babygros for him to sleep in because his is quite bad all over xx
