Feeding to sleep

When should we get out of the habit of feeding to sleep? My DS is nearly 4 months and feeds to sleep at bed time and every nap (except for naps in the pram as the moving motion is what sends him off). When should I start thinking about stopping this or is it ok? He needs a bottle before bed anyway so I can’t really help that he feeds to sleep then. Rocking him does work but feeding is easier especially if he is overtired as I think it comforts him. Exclusively bottle-fed btw.

Whenever it stops working. I fed mine to sleep until they preferred to go to sleep some other way. Youngest was around 15 months, switched to a cup of milk before bed and then he’d just lie down and go to sleep. You have quite a few tricky months for sleep still ahead of you, so I would keep going if it’s working.

It's fine, you can just keep doing it if it works for you. I am still feeding my 2.5yo to sleep. It's quick and it gets him to sleep, what's not to like? I fed my eldest until he stopped needing it by himself, was a nice painless transition and I didn't really have to do anything to facilitate it.

I think they advise to stop bottles by about a year or at least switch the last bottle feed to before tooth brushing by then. And don't leave a bottle with them in their cot to fall asleep. If they have a bottle they need to be in your arms so you can take it away again. But other than that, do whatever works I always think!

Ok that all sounds good thank you :) I’ll carry on while he’s happy!
