Music lessons

Am I on a hiding to nothing to push my 8 yr old to have a term of music lessons?
She expressed a vague interest in learning the recorder and I would really like her to give it a go. She is not a child who has lots of extracurricular interests. Before COVID she did swimming (which she loves) and tried 2 different dance classes (did them for 18mths, then lost interest) and a craft club which she liked, but might not continue as her friend is no longer going to go. I just want her to have slightly broader interests and to learn something that requires a bit of commitment, but feel that maybe I shouldn’t bother unless she is really keen.

Would they be group lessons at school, or individual lessons? How many would you have to commit to? Does she already have a recorder? I've no doubt there are some YouTube tutorials, then at least you could gauge her interest.

Hi! I would definitely check if she is still interested in a more than small way. When I was younger I started guitar at 6 and have continued every since. My parents help this by making me really interested in music outside of a specific instrument. If you really want her to do it there are a few thing which could help peak her interest. 1. Play lots of music (specifically in genres they like with the instrument they want to play) around the child all the time and watch movies with lovely soundtracks that she might like. 2. When getting the instrument, make a big deal out of it, no matter how much it may be, because they will feel attached to it more easily and will actually enjoy playing it. If they have an excitement they will most likely be more enthusiastic along the line 3. Getting a teacher they like and finding a lesson length that suits them. Hope these helped and good luck. If she is not feeling interested after 1 or two of these things the best thing I would say is to just let her stop or choose a new instrument because they will resent it if forced into it xx
