Hey all

Looking for some opinions - my child (8) takes around an hour to eat. It could be anything even sandwiches! It’s not normal is it x

The only issue I have as an adult is with eating out. I try to order a side dish instead of a main course, otherwise I'm still eating with others watching me.

DSD1 was like this. She chewed each mouthful about 100 times and meals took ages. She improved gradually from 9 or so and now as a teen can be finished before I'm halfway through.
I do know someone who still eats very slowly as an adult and she seems to manage by either having a small portion or being prepared to take dessert to go (if eating out).
I think the suggestion of pottering about or sitting with her while you have a drink or something is good. If her dad is around he can take turns with you.

I was a slow water as a child and always told to hurry up or 'are you not done?!' To make it worse everyone would leave the table and room so I was sat there by myself. It still annoys me to think about it now.

I'm an averaged paced eater now. My family are fast eaters. My son who is 21 months is a slow eater. Understandably because he is young but I never leave the table until he is done.

Just don't comment on it in front of your DD. I still remember the comments to this day!

It is very slow to eat two slices of bread and some filling. As a child I would be very grumpy if I managed eat mine in 10min then had to sit there for 50min every meal time waiting because a sibling took that long.

I'm a slow eater as is my almost 6 year old DD, family is always on dessert and I'm still it half way through my main lol

I do find it painful to watch my DD though, she can take an hour to eat a bowl of Weetabix, so by the time she's nearly finished it's all rubbery and horrible Hmm
