Hi, so my little boy is 6 months and we’ve been giving him baby porridge since around 5 months! He was a big baby 10lb when he was born and has always had a big appetite.

His current schedule.

8am - wake up- plays on bouncer.
9:30am - aptamil porridge 4 heaps and half ripe banana with 5oz bottle.
13:45- 7oz bottle with 1 x kiddylicious strawberry wafer.
5.45pm- 120g-140g home made purées or mashed veg (today’s-carrot, broccoli and potato mash with cheddar and garlic) -4oz bottle.
9:45pm - 7oz bottle with half mashed banana
10:45pm - bedtime (stays asleep until 8am)

Does this sound okay?
We are going to try to bring his bedtime to around 6/7 eventually. He’s a very content happy baby. He’s tall and lean. He moved around a lot and had his first two teeth at 4 1/2 months.

TIA x

I would say it’s far too much food. Milk should be his main source of nutrition until he is 1 years old, it’s has more calories than food. Milk should be given 30 to 60 mins before meals. If you are spoon feeding then you can introduce a 3rd meal after 9 months and snacks after 12 months. This is what your paediatric dietician told us. My children have allergies hence the dietitian but are other wise healthy. Don’t forget to give food which is high in iron as iron stores start to run out at 6 months although this is less of an issue if you are formula feeding.

Yeah that's not a lot of bottles for a 6 month old xx

Maybe that would be a good schedule nearer to 9/10 months, really at 6 months fiidbis just for fun and most of his calories should be from milk xx

I don't think it's too much food. But he could have some more finger food and textures. With weaning now at 6 months pureeing food isn't really necessary. It was necessary when advice was to wean earlier and babies couldn't hold themselves up etc.

I'd introduce some other breakfast options like toast or scrambled eggs so he has some variety day to day. Sticks of cheese, broccoli to hold, sticks of cooked carrot or sweet potato, pasta, chicken etc - just cut stuff in shapes that can be held in a fist! Mine had a mix of me spoonfeeding some stuff and them holding other bits. I think having different textures and flavours early is a good aim.

Meant to add its fine if most is dropped and a mess is made. Milk is main calories for now.

I would do a bottle first thing at 8am and then breakfast at your normal time. Then another bottle mid morning and mid afternoon (when they get to 1 these are replaced with snacks). Lunch at 12, dinner at 5/6ish and another bottle before bed around 8pm. Hope that make sense
