Carpet cleaning and newborn

I'm 37 weeks and in full nest mode. My carpets desperately need cleaning. I have a horrid dust allergy and hoovering after a while doesn't cut it. I have approached companies and asked about what they use as I don't want to be bringing chemicals into my home so close to having a newborn and particularly on the carpet where they will be lying - albeit on a playmat.

They're all super vague in their responses.
I am tempted to use a place I've used before but not have the scotch guarding.

I know this is a decision between do it or don't and I definately want it done. I guess my question is, what would you do? Have you used a company/ approach that you've felt has been particularly baby friendly?

Thanks :)

We hired a carpet cleaner from the supermarket and did it ourselves. I think it was like £60 plus the shampoo.

If you have the funds, I would highly recommend buying a carpet cleaner. We later bought one, which I think was around £200 some. It’s been so useful. I’m assuming this is your first baby? There is a lot of vomit, poo, wee incidents in your future. It’s made life so much easier through all the vomiting bugs and potty training, etc.

Our carpet cleaner has been a godsend!
I would also recommend teaching your children to remove their shoes by the front door, as soon as they have shoes!

My Teens are as messy as any other teens, but they are absolutely programmed not to wear shoes in the house!

You are completely overthinking this.

We had all of ours cleaned not long before baby arrived (as in about a fortnybefore). It was weeks after before she was on the floor.

As long as you aren’t cleaning the carpets and putting a newborn down immediately it really doesn’t matter what you use.

I’d just get a company in to clean them but not have any other stain proofing treatments. It’ll be a long time before your baby is in direct contact with the carpet and best get it done sooner rather than later

Thanks everyone, no not first born, we do remove shoes at the door - our hallway is carpeted which I hate but was easiest/ cheapest to do at the time. I will have a look into buying a carpet cleaner, thank you. It won't be something we can sort pre-baby, well not easily.

Thank you @Megan2018 I needed that. I am overthinking this!

Agree @cashoncollection about not getting the stain proofing treatments, I asked for this last time but the guy did it anyway as 'it was free' - yes.....but I said I didn't want it. I have asked the company we used before if they could clean but not scotch guard and they've avoided answering my question. Hopefully they can.
