So, what exactly are we supposed to do this Easter with the DC?

Day 3 and at my wit's end. Just want to sit down and cry. I have a tween and a teen. Just what exactly are we supposed to do with them for the next 2 and a bit weeks?

I am usually a very active person with my DC. We go to the cinema, out for lunch, do day trips, go to the beach, book into day camps, go away for the weekend, see family and pack all the holiday out.

So far...it's been DC1 in their room, DC2 in the other. Video games, TV, and early Easter Eggs.

Trying to think of something to do, but stuck. We've been to the park already a few times.

My neighbours are out every day playing golf. How is this even fair? Our DC have f*ck all to do and are off for 2 weeks. They don't even have schoolwork to do.

We've booked a self catering break starting from 12th April.

Pretty much all outdoors stuff is do-able now - you can travel as far as you like. Cycling, canoeing, skating, ball games, tennis, outdoor swimming, forests, parks, gardens, beaches....Just so long as the weather is decent! Bad weather makes it harder.

Picnics, themed walks (little ones might enjoy doing scavenger hunt type walks), geocache walks, take some games to the park (tennis, catch, etc). National Trust properties are opening up and there are plenty of gardens to wander around.

Teach them how to garden, cook, bake, make some art or buy some clay and let them make trinkets.

DC2 could look up some at home workouts you could all do together- even yoga or dancing. Unsure of their ages but could they go for a bike ride picnic together?

Our next door neighbours children are 7-12 year range. They have been up cycling some old garden benches - 1 each, painted however they like. Seems to have passed a fair few hours.
Also putting up bird houses, insect hotel etc in garden. Also painting them.

Seeing family
Walks with friends
Cricket with friends
Park with friends
Walks with me
2 day Intensive swimming course at their school
3 day football camp

It’s actually really quite full!

Salarymallory · 31/03/2021 11:33

And our with remote control car

@FredaFlinstone

Some good ideas so thanks.

Sorry for the rant. I am just fed up today. I've been positive for a year and got a lot done. I've not wasted the time. I think it is the weather. The sun makes me like a bunny bouncing off the walls.

DC have had way too much TV and video games over the past year. DC2 is now overweight and very unfit because he has not had his sports clubs for most of the year. It broke my heart yesterday when we went for a run and he couldn't do it.

I have had enough of this now. Not for myself, but for them. They don't have friends in our village as they go to school 25 miles away and their friends live miles out the other side.

Private school presumably? Ours has lots of sorts camps running - could you check out?

@CarmenSanDiego2020

Spare a thought for us in Ireland restricted to within 5km of our homes since Xmas. Nothing open and kids off for 2 weeks. At least you can travel further!
5km!! Bloody hell, that wouldn’t even get me to the nearest supermarket!

Hopefully the weather is as nice for you as it is for us OP so you could go for a bike ride, go to a skate park, have a walk by a nearby river or in the woods, yes you can go to the beach, see if there’s an outdoor swimming pool nearby, meet up with another family outdoors. There’s plenty to do when the sun is shining!

GiveMeAllTheGin8 · 31/03/2021 12:27

I feel you !! It’s hard !
I’m in Ireland, we’re still in level 5 lockdown since Christmas. Nothing is open , we can only travel 5km and we are not allowed meet up with anyone.
Luckily restrictions ease a tiny bit by the 12th but that’s when they kids go back to school Angry
Mine are younger than yours so we’ve basically been spending our days in the playground, beach abs garden with a lot of chocolate and ice cream thrown in!
Completely fed up we are still in this situation over a year later . I just want life back to normal Sad
