Blood in stools

Hi,
For 15 days now my 6 month old baby girl has had blood in her stools. She had 3 nights of being violently sick just the once every night, it stopped for 2 days and then she pooed one morning and there was just LOADS of blood. I took her to A&E and we were sent to the children’s ward. They’ve done blood work and stool samples and all have come back clear. She was doing 10+ poos a day all with blood in. We are now down to 3-6 poos a day but still containing some blood, sometimes it looks like it’s soaked in to the nappy like watery blood, sometimes mixed in, sometimes both. It’s bright red. She stayed in hospital for one night, then went back after they called us back and stayed in for another 2 nights. Still given no answers. I then took her to a different hospital, same results. I’ve been told to wait a little longer than 2 weeks to see if it clears up but it doesn’t seem to be. Anyway, my main question is has this happened with anyone else and did it turn out to be a man allergy? They did suggest this but said they didn’t think so as only just started and it’s rare to start at this age. However, a nurse friend said she’s seen it happen after kids have had a bug and as a result developed an allergy/intolerance. I’m really worried about her and don’t know what to do next because I just keep getting the same results/told to wait from hospital.
Thanks.

This must be frightening for you, have they checked her bum itself? Has she had a fever or any other signs of being unwell?

My first thought when I saw your title was allergy. Is she weaning? Allergies normally don’t appear on the first exposure and they can appear at any time.

Yes they checked for a fissure and couldn’t see anything.
She had started weaning but was only having single vegetable purées and a couple a tea spoons of porridge. It’s really stressful especially when they just keep saying give a bit more time.

Stop the porridge. Oats are a major allergens. What are you making the porridge with?

I’ve heard of babies becoming temporarily lactose intolerant after a tummy bug, could be that perhaps?

Could try stopping the food for a few days to see if it helps then slowly introduce again to see if something triggers a reaction?

Sounds awful though Sad

I stopped weaning completely when she went into hospital so 2 weeks ago. So it can’t be that Sad
I’m going to ring the doctors again tomorrow and ask about the lactose thing as a couple of people have mentioned that to me. Thank you.
