Is there a moment with potty training that if you miss it is harder?

DS2 just came and told me he had done a poo. Now he has done that a few times, as well as a few wees on the potty when I have been changing him, but he doesn't always tell me about the poos and he doesn't always wee on the potty. Find it really daunting to try and do this, carry all the millions of spare clothes as well as going in and out all day on the 3 school runs.

Off now to get DD so check back later. Thanks!

BTW I ask as I didn't think to start with DS1 until he was 2.11 and we have just had 3 dry nights this week in a row (he is 61/2yr)

TBH, I do wonder this too. ds1 trained at 2.7, dd at 2.9 and ds2 has just trained at 2.3 so is my youngest yet. He has also been the easiest in a lot of ways as he has become quite reliable for dryness in the smallest space of time. I was worried about things like the school run but we used some reusable trainer pants for those times which made things a bit easier, also he is more reliable at night than my other two were. I wasn't going to bother training him until he was 2.6 but decided to give it a whirl a bit earlier. He was giving me lots of little clues that he was ready and I thought that we could spend half term in the house and concentrate on getting him trained without the pressure of having to go out. I have gone back to using a changing bag when we are out for a long period of time but it just has a spare set of clothes and some pants and kandoo wipes in it (also some choc buttons for when he needs a bit of encouragement). It hasn't been daunting at all for us in the same way that the first two were and he is now getting more confident when we are out. HTH

Thanks for that.

With my eldest I was using terry squares and plastic pants and never had the dry nappy. I put pants on him once and he wet them so I decided he wasn't ready. . It was about 6 months before we could confidently go out without spare clothes. He once had 11 dry nights in a row but went to stay at my ILs and then was wet again. He isn't reliable and is a very very heavy sleeper. This week, after night number 2 of being dry he told me he had been wearing pants as had run out of nappies! I hadn't realised.

DD was asking for pants at 17 months and after 3 half hearted attempts on my account she was dry before 2. She has had lots of dry nights but after a week of wet beds is back in nappies. She isn't as heavy a sleeper as DS1 and says she will never be dry.

I really don't mind wet pants from the youngest so don't know whether to go for it or not?

I would, what's the worst that can happen, he can go back in nappies? DS2 is/was my only clothie baby and I think that has made the transition easier than it did with the other two in disps.

Just put DS2 to bed. The nappy I put on him around 11am, after he had told me he had done a poo, was dry. He did the smallest dribble in his potty and I have got pants out to put on him when he gets up. Sounds silly, but I am worried what people will think if they see him with wet trousers. Is it okay to change them in public? that I don't feel confident to just let him try. (Will be pantless for seconds!)

He was 2 in June. TBH I didn't put his age on as I didn't want any responses to be influenced by that!

After the 3rd poo since lunch I couldn't face another nappy so have put DS2 in trainer pants. Had been in them about 20 minutes when he wet them, plonked him on the potty and he did a wee. Had his choc button and is now in Noddy pants. Looks soooo cute!

DD just said "he is dry". Clearly she is on pant duty!

Nawwww...stop trying! Ds hadn't the time or inclination till he was about 2.5. One day he just scrambled up on the toilet, facing the wall, did a poo and asked me to wipe his bottom

There is a moment when they just do it. He has never looked back!

NAB3littlemonkeys · 09/11/2007 18:25

I didn't get that. Do I send pants or nappies? Just done another wee.

Stick with pants. Be brave!! Consistency is a big thing imo. Must admit I've never done the changing in public - always found a public toilet when accidents happened.

helen02 · 09/11/2007 20:22

keep him in nappies

NAB3littlemonkeys · 10/11/2007 09:08

Well as they are staying here today DS2 s in his pants!

Just got back in. On second pair of pants and has done 3 wees!

Sticking with the pants as I think he has done really well.

During his nap this afternoon he did wet and soil his nappy. Someone once said that after a certain age they don't poo when asleep, ie involuntary. Is that really true? Obviously I am not expecting him to be dry when asleep yet!

How is it going now?

NAB3littlemonkeys · 14/11/2007 17:19

He is doing really well! We had 2 lots of poo pants on Monday but only 1 little dribble since. He tends to take 3 goes at doing a wee. Does a bit, gets up and has a look and then does some more. His day time nap nappies are dry too.
