Baby suncream

So the weather is meant to be nice next week and I’m hoping to spend some time outdoors with my 8.5mo

I’m assuming I’ll need to put some sun cream on her, I’ve got some factor 50. How on Earth do you put sun cream on a baby without them eating it?!

She’s not generally cooperative so I’m dreading it slightly but definitely don’t want her to burn!!

I’m expecting we’ll be in the shade most of the time we’re out but not all of it.

I don’t have an answer, I was thinking about the same thing today. I’m going to try baby sunglasses and see if my 8 month old baby keeps them on. Today she wore a sun hat which worked well. Her arms and legs were still covered. I think you can buy sun suits that have UV protection. I’m thinking that hat, sunglasses and parasol/ shade should be ok. I’d be interested to hear people’s experience with sun cream too

I don't really find it that difficult - I sort of rub it onto my hands and then into her skins quickly. It soaks in too quickly for her to eat it? Sorry, I'm not sure if I'm missing the point? Bit like soaping them in the bath? Dd has never eaten the soap either!

I do do 1 body part at a time whereas with older children I might dab on the suncream and then rub it in at the end when I'd dabbed enough over her whole body, is that what you mean?

I use aerosols that don't need to be rubbed in and then just spray as much as I can get on them! It's not cheap but worth it for the convenience!

I found a brilliant solution in Boots. It's a suncream stick and it's fantastic. Factor 50 and so easy to wipe around my toddler's neck and on his face and was so handy when he was a baby. He has never burnt while wearing it. They have it here - www.boots.com/soltan-kids-stick-spf50-25g-10245702

It’s really easy, one body part at a time and you’re done. But then my son was never one for putting anything in his mouth, so it never even crossed my mind.

I've not done it yet but surely it's just the same as putting moisturiser on? Got to do this twice a day head to toe with ds and no issues :)

I only put factor 30 on ours, thin layers frequently by applying to your hands then rubbing in to them. Best to keep them in the shade most of the time to protect their delicate skin. Invest in a sun umbrella or a little pop up tent.

I did baby massage with my first and the technique I learnt there seemed to work with applying the sun cream. To be fair if they are it it tastes disgusting and probably won’t do it again

Thanks everyone, I’ll give these suggestions a try!

Put a dollop in your palm, then smear all over the insides of both hands. Grab an arm or a leg, and swoop your hands (one on each side so you get everything) down the length in one go. Any excess left on your hands goes on feet, hands and face.
Don't forget the tops of the ears!
