Nappy change at night?

My baby has just turned 7 weeks. I used to set an alarm every 3 hours to feed and change baby but noticed he is now waking himself when hungry during the night. So I didn't for the first time yesterday and he slept for five hours before waking which I didn't expect him to do! Is it ok for him to go this long between feeds or should I go back to setting an alarm and waking him? And what about his nappy? Should that be changed more frequently if he sleeps 5/6 hour stretches or not? He doesn't seem to poo in the night anymore, or only very small amount and didn't seem bothered by his nappy being wet but I would usually change every 2 hours during the day.

I think once a baby has established a healthy and consistent weight gain after birth, then if they’re sleeping rough through for any length of time there’s no reason to wake them. They say never wake a sleeping baby, they’ll only learn that that’s the pattern and then it will become difficult to drop a wake ect.

I’d let them sleep, they wake when they’re hungry.

Plus I’d be bloody fuming if someone woke me every 3 hours for a snack Grin even if I am a big foodie..

At seven weeks I wouldn't be setting an alarm unless you've been told your baby needs extra feeds for weight gain. The baby will wake you when it is hungry, don't worry about that! Enjoy the sleep!

My health visitor told me not to change wet nappies after every feed. Best advice because it helps extend the hours between feeding

Thanks everyone. I think I am just extra cautious as he was a month premature although he has been gaining weight well. Also was worried about leaving him in a nappy that long as had a horrible time with nappy rash before that took a long time to get rid of! If I change him during the night he will wake up as he hates nappy change time, then he wants food. So it seems he is sleeping through his hunger if that makes sense but then wakes and is ravenous!!
