Nappy Rash

My baby has never suffered with nappy rash and his bottom has always been clear. He is now over 1 year old.. following an upset stomach and lots of soiled nappies / cleaning / wiping etc he has now got a sore bottom.

I have tried as much nappie time off as possible: when he has a nappie on regular changes and minimal use of wipes, the chemist also suggest a cream named metanium. He has still got a sore bottom an is getting progressively worse an the skin now starting to be raw and broken. He is now becoming uncomfortable in himself.

Does anybody have any suggestions, methods, creams/ointments that you have found to help?

Thanks xx

Drapolene is amazing. Its not clear from your post if you're doing this or not, but try just using water and cloth rather than actual wipes

If its starting to break out and something like metanium isn't helping then perhaps run it past your Dr as sometimes it can be fungal and they can prescribe an alternative.

I also second the cloth wipes, my toddler has never tolerated dispolisble nappies or wipes.

Just been through the most vicious rash with my newborn this is what worked

  • nappy off time
  • Metanium but don’t try to rub it off or wash off with water as it sticks to the skin and can take the skin off so wipe it off with olive oil
  • weleda nappy cream on the rest of the bum (not over the Metanium)
  • no wipes - cotton wool and water only. Spoke to a consultant paediatric dermatologist and she said wipes are the devil - just her opinion of course
  • bath in water only no bubbles
  • v gentle nappies - we ended up using bamaboo nappies after the pampers seemed to contribute to the problem

Good luck!
