Milk intake and weaning

Just wondering if anyone knows how much milk a baby should have when you first start weaning? My daughter isn’t eating enough yet for me to drop any but she also doesn’t seem to want as much milk now. I’ve always worried about her weight as she was growth restricted, however she has caught up and is a decent weight now.

I’m trying to go off her but she’s never been a big milk drinker and would happily go hours without so I’m not sure what’s best.

Thanks everyone x

What age?
Normally recommended a minimum of 20oz/600mls up until around 10 months and then its around 400mls. Once you hit 1 year its 300/350mls

Sorry if that wasn’t clear! She’s just gone 6 months so we’ve just started with weaning. I’m still trying to give her about six bottles a day but she just doesn’t seem to want that much! Thank you x

She should still be having all her normal amounts of milk when you first start.

I did find it out my 2nd baby off her milk even though she was eating basically nothing 🤷🏻‍♀️ we eventually had to drop a bottle at 7 months to try and get her to eat food and drop another at 8 months which was when she started to eat a small to reasonable amount of food.

My first still drank all her bottles and ate everything lol. So different babies will behave differently when food is introduced.

At 6 months I think we were on 4 daytime bottles and 1 overnight. 4 hourly bottles in the day with food in between. They do often naturally space out feedings as they get older and will reduce intake

@iluvpickles that definitely sounds like my daughter! She’s basically just licking the spoon and playing with the food but like you say it’s putting her off for some reason. I’m also finding it hard to get her to focus on eating anything haha. Thanks for the reply

@dementedpixie we’re still trying to feed her every 3 hours and I think it might be too much as she does often fight us. I’m also finding it hard to fit any food in between as it’s quite a short amount of time! Will maybe give four hourly a go. Thank you!

A rough schedule we had was ;
7, 11, 3, 7 - milk (plus 1 night feed)
8, 12, 5 - food (once all meals were introduced)

Thank you, that’s really helpful! Do you remember how much was in each bottle roughly? I know this will be different for every baby though! It’s just helpful to get an idea. I can’t wait until she’s eating ‘properly’ haha x

How much do you offer in each just now?

Work around that amount and then adjust as necessary

Thatwentbadly · 25/03/2021 10:40

Is she teething? This puts babies off eating and drinking.

JunoBJB · 25/03/2021 10:57

@Thatwentbadly thank you for the suggestion! I’m not sure to be honest. She has always been quite awkward with her bottles anyway but seems to be particularly bad at the moment!
