Im quite new to netmums, don't know of this is the right place to post. My son has been diagnosed with an allergy to sesame after having a few hives on hos face when eating hummus. We have been given an epi pen and i feel like life is over. We have no history of anything, no hayfever or asthma, nothing. Is there any hope he may outgrow this, have you're littles outgrown an allergy, how have you found life. I just need some good news to get me through the day. We have an older daughter who has no allergies.

Hi, you’ll find as a family you’ll adapt quite quickly to cooking without sesame and won’t need to be checking labels of everything.

I have to cook to cater for a few allergies in my family including sesame, wheat, soya, shellfish, yeast. (Before covid I would regularly cook for family members who couldn’t have nuts or dairy either) Sesame is the easiest to avoid for us.

To be honest, to start with I panicked and thought we would never be able to enjoy food, but now we cook without thinking about it, shops cater for allergies amazingly now, the only time we struggle is when we’re eating out as a lot of restaurants don’t have much choice so none time out of ten, my daughter ends up with a jacket potato or salad.

Thank you, i do wonder how we will deal with this. I know it is doable but the terror in me just thinks eating out wont be enjoyable. I also feel guilty eating things he cant, we are thinking if he still has his allergy at 6 we will do some kind of low dose oit xx

I know how you feel, my daughter (9months) is looking like she might have an allergy to nuts and it’s so scary. We are seeing a paediatric allergy specialist and trying to find out if she possibility has other allergies as there have been other reactions (possibly strawberries). I have just completed a course, it was with MK college distance learning (online) on allergy awareness and it has really helped me to feel more mentally prepared as before I felt completely lost!
