Baby has a cold

She's 5 month and has a sniffly nose and phlegm at the back of her throat which is causing her to cough, she had a coughing episode early hours because of the mucus which sounded like she was choking.
What can I use to help her clear it?

I've tried steam from the shower?

It's scaring me when she coughs because it sounds like she's choking I feel helpless and just want it to clear for her Sad

I feel like all new mums should be given a 'babies 1st cold' care package! From trial and error, heres what I found works -

  • snufflebabe on soles of feet, then put socks on (dont ask me why it works, but it really does!)
  • calpol plug in at night
  • tilt the cot at the head end. We put books under the actual cot. Dont just tilt the mattress - IYSWIM.

Very gentle back massages before she goes down will help loosen anything on her chest.

The snufflebabe bubble bath is good, too.

Thank you
She had a bath with steam (ran the shower at same time)
She has the calpol plug in on now and she's has a back massage and some saline drops.
The blocked nose is coming and going- I just hate the thought of the mucus at the back of the throat Sad

Currently going through similar, we’ve got Asda’s “vapour bath” baby bubbles, snuffle babe rub on chest and back and calpol nasal spray. Seems to be helping the night times so hopefully we will be out the other side soon.
