Hi all..

I don't know where to start, my little girl will be 8 weeks old on Tuesday and seems to be hungry ALL THE TIME. She has reflux and is on omeprazole 1.2ml a day and carobel in every bottle. Is 6oz too much? She is wanting a feed every 2.5-3 hours! HV has told me to feed on demand but she is having so much! Send some advice please..

My baby had that much at that age, his 19 weeks now and on even more and doing great

6 floz is fine as long as she's roughly getting the 2.5 floz per pound in weight a day.

Has the HV suggested that CMPA could be causing the reflux?

My son fed every 2 hours. I went with it. Try not to worry about the time. Just feed when dc appears hungry.

If she’s not bringing up much, is comfortable and happy then go with it! How much does she weigh?

Sandy1301 · 21/03/2021 19:05

@BunnyRuddington they suggested it when she was 2 weeks, went one day on pepti 1 and ended up in out of hours as she was starving and throwing it all up. They told me to stick to the normal milk.

@BunnyRuddington she is getting way more than that as that averages out just over 5 bottles and she feeds every 2 hours

@Vicky1989x She got weighed 1.5 weeks ago and weighed 12lb 4oz, little chunk! Blush

@sherrystrull what did professionals say? That's about 70 odd oz Shock

@Sandy1301 Could be why she has a big appetite! But when my baby was that age I was mistaking her sleepy cues for hunger cues - she also had bad reflux and wanted to feed more than usual to soothe the pain.

Pepti 1 is a Hydrolysed formula meaning that it does still contain dairy.

I'd go back to the GP tomorrow and ask for a DF formula.

If they suspect CMPA they should also refer her to the allergy clinic and a Paediatric Dietician.

FTEngineerM · 21/03/2021 19:54

@BunnyRuddington it’s not quite that simple though, I wish it was, well I hope it is for the OP but we had 6 visits to GP directly asking for allergy and dermatology referral and just point blank refusal. Apparently that’s what babies are like 😬.

Hydrolysed formula is ok for CMPA depending how severe it is, the proteins are smashed apart so they not longer ‘look’ like milk protein and hopefully dont cause a reaction.

Is she being sick after the bottles? What size teat are you using? Could she be going through a growth spurt?

Pandemicpregnancy · 21/03/2021 20:15

I found my baby drank a lot more than recommended in the early days and I felt like I was constantly upping her ounces and googling if she was having too much. When she got to about 3 months things started to level out and I didn't have to increase the amount as frequently. They grow and change so much in the early days so need a lot to keep them going.

@FTEngineerM she was being sick until she started omeprazole and carobel and since this she hasn't been sick once! I'm using MAM size 2 as the milk is too thick for lower teats. She is going for her 8week appointment/immunity on Friday so I'll ask more then

@BunnyRuddington do you think it might be CMPA even if she isn't being sick? I'm so new to all this and since I've been to out of hours they haven't mentioned an allergy

I've got CMPA and I'm never sick. Have a look at the article I linked to earlier and see if any of the symptoms sound familiar Thanks
