What do your early riser kids do when they wake up in the morning? Tv/play?

My kids immediately want to watch tv when they wake up, usually at 6am. It’s only on weekends as they know on weekdays no tv is allowed but I still can’t help have mum guilt that they are watching tv from 6am! They’re 6 and 4. Obviously I don’t complain at the time as want to get an extra hour or sleep but just wondering if there’s any other ideas I can get them doing so they’re not immediately jumping out of bed to go down watch tv.

It’s the weekend, let them watch tv. If you don’t want them to, then get up with them.

Definitely TV at that time in the morning!!

Not allowed out of bed until 7am.
They read now, but generally used to just lie there talking to themselves.
7am is generally straight out of bed and TV on at weekends. Breakfast if it's a school day.

@AliceMcK even when I get up with them they’ll whine and whinge for tv the whole morning.

@Bobbybobbins @DancesWithDaffodils good to hear mine aren’t the only ones straight to tv at that time. My younger one would stay in bed for longer if I told her to but my older one will make such a fuss. I suppose just need to accept it’s the weekend and it won’t harm them really

I'd just let them watch TV!

My only other suggestion if you really didn't want them to, would be to set up what I've seen called an 'invitation to play'. Basically set up some play that they'll see coming downstairs or into the lounge/kitchen, as simple as some playdoh tubs and tools out on a tray, or a little set-up of figures, or a jigsaw half out and ready, that they'll see and think "oooooooh!". It really worked for my 4yo last year during lockdown, she'd see that and immediately want to play so it staved off the TV whinge for as long as she was occupied.

It only takes a little forethought but I've found it really effective (I'm generally happy to be lazy and watch the TV though!)

@EyeDrops that’s a great idea! Thanks will try this and see how it goes next weekend.

I'd bloody love it if dd would watch tv when she wakes up!

She shouts "mummy! Mummy!" at the top of her voice.... waking everyone up, including ds. DS then grumpy as still tired but won't go back to sleep, Dd is then in and out of our room nonstop.

Dh and I are NOT morning people and are eternally grumpy at being woken early.

This is relatively recent as she used to sleep longer but now it's anywhere from 5.30 and absolutely nothing we try works. I don't even mind her being up but waking everyone else up too is very frustrating!

Better tv than phones

DS (nearly 3) sits on the sofa and watches an hour or two of tv. It's too noisy for the neighbours if he runs around or plays that early in the morning, so we keep it super quiet until 8/9am.

On school days, fully dressed,teeth/ hair brushed, buff located, bag ready and then pad time till breakfast. Gives me the rage if they get pad time and then make us all late pottering around when they are supposed to be getting dressed.
