How do you get a baby to drink water?

I have a 7mo baby who I have been giving water to from 6 months with meals. She is breastfed so I know the majority of fluid will come from my milk but I read that they also need to drink sips of water at this age. I have tried the BLW cups (the ones like little shot glasses), a trainer cup and recently a free flow cup with a spout. I just don't know how to reach her how to drink from them. How did you manage it?

I started with the standard cheap tommee tippee free flow cup just gave it DS with some water in he threw it on the floor a few times so I showed him how and let him get on with it.

He now has a nuby free flow too which he happily drinks water and milk from. Keep going, she’ll get the hang of it!

As breastfeeding reduces they will want water more but really at this age food is just tastes and they don't get much chance to get thirsty in between breastfeeds.

My baby is 11 months and has a few gulps of water here and there. I think the free flow sippy cups are easiest for them if they aren't used to a bottle. I put it in her mouth and then when she tips it up I help her, but she knows what it is so tries tipping it herself. You might need to gently help a bit more than me and just let a little bit go in as they might not be expecting it. They will make it clear if they want more. No need to force the issue too much though.

Problem with the free flowing cups is that they can shake them up or tip them over and create a flood... So need to be monitored more!

Dd started off with a straw cup which she found much easier

Thank you everyone. I've been putting the free flow cup to her mouth and tipping gently. I just wasn't sure if other people's babies were drinking more! Thanks for the reassurance!

I thought that breastfed babies didn't need water. I'm happy to be corrected though.

@RampantIvy once they start weaning they should be offered water with food.

OP we found success with a doofus cup for one kid. Another will only use a 360 no spill cup. They’re all different but will find their way once eating a bit more. Try not to worry.

Doofus cup lol. A doidy cup.

My DD is 10.5 months and only recently started drinking more water. She’s had the most success with the munchkin straw cup which I taught her to use at 7 months. She has the TT free flow cup too but she’s more interested in tipping the water out Hmm

My son would only drink water out of a weighted straw bottle you get easy ones. He wouldn't use a doidy cup, dippy cup or shot glasses.
He started using a sippy cup around 11 months.

Mu eldest only started drinking water around 13/14 months. My other two were much earlier guzzlers. So try not to worry if she doesn’t seem keen. And finding the right cup can be key if she gets older and still doesn’t fancy it. The only one my eldest would drink from was a nuby cup with a very soft spout. The other two were fine with the tommee tippee cups you see everywhere.
