Have to give up breastfeeding and wondering about alternatives to formula

Hi mums

I will have to give up breastfeeding soon (at 9 months) to do IVF.

I’m keen to avoid having to use formula if I can - has anyone had any experience in going to exclusively solids by 9 months?

Thanks so much

OverTheRainbow88 is saying NOT giving formula is far worse for the baby than only giving solids at that age.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 20/03/2021 19:38

You baby will need formula !

marmitepasta · 20/03/2021 19:38

Just give the baby formula! Why would you not if you are giving them other dairy products?

@OverTheRainbow88

I REALLY THINK IVE PHRASED WHAT I MEANT WRONG, or people aren’t understanding.

I meant it’s far more unhealthy for a 9 month old to just have solids than to have formula... ie, feed your baby formula.

Oh I see! Sorry, that was my misunderstanding. I agree with you!

The OP may not be giving dairy products. There are lots of donor websites now too. Lots of choice.

If you’re wanting to avoid dairy OP, I believe there’s a very good quality formula by Hipp Organic that’s based on breast milk rather than cow’s.

Under 12 months your baby needs breast milk, your or donor or formula. There is not a suitable alternative.

Iggly · 20/03/2021 20:16

Delay IVF for a few months, surely that’s the best option for your baby if you’re against formula?

BertieBotts · 20/03/2021 20:30

Hipp Organic is very definitely based on cow's milk! There is no formula based on breastmilk - you must have misunderstood something, justforthis.

Phew I was Googling then thinking I’d missed a trick on the formula front!!

Will you have to give up breastfeeding? I’d suggest really doing your homework before you too. I’m also doing ivf and am being supported by my consultant in how I could continue bf. Extended Bf is really beneficial in reducing the extra risks of some health problems that can be caused by some ivf meds.

Exactly where do you think they get the breast milk?
LittleBearPad · 20/03/2021 20:35

Just give your baby formula.

If it helps consider it cows milk with vitamins and minerals
