Iv held off giving peanut related products to my child. She is now 3 years old and iv read that if you hold it off it can increase risk to allergies later on in life. I thoughy it was the other way round and now im scared to give her some peanut butter. Im pregnant and have read its good to eat nuts as theres research that shows its prevents allergies to the baby. Any advice is appreciated. nb me and husband have no allergies.

I parked up near the Children's hospital A&E in my town and had a little picnic with my son. Eggs, cooked and as an ingredient, tree nuts, ground nuts, oily fish, white fish etc. It was a strange picnic but I was happy to know that if he did react then help was close at hand!

At one year of age I deliberately gave them peanut butter to check.

When we started weaning just before 6 months. I fed him a tsp of smooth peanut butter that had been watered down a little. Then cashews, then almonds and walnuts. I then started making nug powders to add to his dishes. I’m of Indian origin and the early introduction of nuts is probably why nut allergies are rare.
