Ideas on how to reduce the number of accidents?

Has anyone got any suggestions as to how i can get my 2.5yr old to finally use the potty without having lots of accidents? He loves not wearing nappies but only seems to tell me he needs a wee or poo when he has begun or done one in his pants. Don't say try again later as he needs to be dry by January for Pre-school.

I think a pre-school cannot refuse them if they are not potty trained as it is discrimination. He does not sound ready and forcing it could make the situation worse in the long run tbh

Probably not the most popular of methods, but bribery worked here!
1stly smarties, for dry knickers when she went
2ndly stickers for telling mummy when she needed to go

Therefore requesting to go, nad being dry when we got there - 1 sticker and 1 smartie!!

Lost smarties and stickers after she got good at it and bought her a smiley face stamper which she loves. Now is just starting to forget about it all and just goes anyway

I think its a bit much to expect a 2.5 yr old to tell you. Either give up and revert to nappies, or plonk her on the potty at regular intervals (at least every hour initially, and definitely immediately after meals).
Agree, starcharts help reinforce it. DS got a star for a wee and a tractor sticker for a poo, and it worked. He was 2.5. But he'd never have got it on his own.
